OT: Digital Camera Suggestions

I bought a Olympus 6 years ago it has optical and digital telescope zoom and I have been and am still very happy with it.

Can't beat Olympus for the money. If you want to spend a grand go with Nikon.

Sony? Meh. Never could figure out why someone would buy a Sony when Olympus/Fuji/Canon are much nicer for the same price.

I would like to get myself a digital camera for Christmas. However, I have no clue.
I'm looking at Nikon's or Olympus' because they've been recommended by friends. After searching the forum, I think Jack has a nikon and Larry has an Olympus. So I'm figurin' I'm on the right track. Looking for something small to take on bike trips and ease of use for quick pics but good photo quality. Any suggestions?

I'm having heaps of fun with a Nikon D70/D70s digital SLR these days, it's a great camera wich produces excellent pics. But it's way big for your pocket and extra(like macro) lences are expensive. Good quality cameras though

For a good point and shoot: Canon A610 or A620.

For a great lens: Canon Powershot S2 IS.

For an excellent entry-level SLR: Canon Rebel XT

I am so excited that full-frame, 1:1 35mm focal-range is within my grasp. I so long for "wide-angle" again!

I'll probably stick with my 20D for another year or two - I love the 5fps (5D tops out at 3fps) - but I am excited by the prospect of what their next model brings.

I'm mainly a nature photog so more resolution and full frame are the holy grail. I lost true 24mm when I moved to the EOS 10D from the EOS 3 film body, and I miss it. There are some really good things about the 1.6x crop though.


I'm thinking that a 5D, 24-105 F4L IS and 200mm f/2.8L + 1.4x extender would be a great compact kit.

The EOS 5D is a great camera! And suddenly 17 mm is just that, again One irritationg thing, though: You have to have PhotoShop CS2 to import RAW, or you need to run a DNG batch converter first.
But all in all, the EOS 5D is clearly the best digital camera so far.
