Very Nice Steve.
Those are such sweet cars.

I also got me a German tank

Purchase price is only part of it. It's really about total cost of ownership....after five years, how much more will that $5700 car cost you including insurance, maintenance and gas compared to something more efficient and cheaper to own?

Bet it'll be a ton. Given its age, mpg, need for premium fuel and the cost of maintaining a Mercedes, maybe even double.

The thing about cars (and other stuff like musical toys) is that it's not just about the money -- thank God. They're all tied up with emotion, aesthetics and entertainment value. The extra cost might be well worth it, and given how much you love the car, it sure seems like it is.

damn moondog that 740 IL (i think) is nice! I was always a big fan of those. Judging from the camry and the chrysler mini van across the street, i bet you have the nicest car on the block.

Thanks. yes, it is a '99 740il. I bought it off my parents
who were trading it for a new model. They would rather
let me rip than off than the dealer. It's a great car.

And that neighbor across the street is actually smart,
I pay way too much for gas and maintenance! ;)
My other neighbors have incredible cars, and they don't
like to keep anything after the new car smell is gone.

Nice Panzerwagon Dude!

I'm glad you found out about the timing chain weakness.
My neighbor had one stretch and the result was very ugly.
I miss my '69 280SL. I drove that beauty for 12 years until the family out grew it.
I don't know if you've had a convertible before, but seat covers help prevent seared leg flesh in the summer.
