My prayers and support go out to you and your family Travis. Beating this isn't easy but it is also not impossible.

Travis, I've been putting the good word to God about your Dad. My Mom is having her share of health issues as well, it looked hopeless at first, but with prayer and lots of support things are looking a little better for her, I wish the same for your Dad.

Hang in there.

Amazing things do happen. I'm not referring to 'miracles', but to the fact that even the most expert quantative prognosis is still just an estimate, a very educated assement, but it's not really possible to take the full measure of humans and their strengths or weaknesses. There are no guarantees in this life but never underestimate human potential.

Travis, my uncle was given similar news
- over 8 years ago! and still going strong
after some smart lifestyle adjustments.

Try to look at this with some optimism,
I have a feeling your dad will be around
for many years. This kind of thing makes
you really appreciate each other. Sometimes
we don't get that chance.

My prayers are with you & your family.

Thanks for the replies guys, and gals.

I appreciate it very much.

Tough times, but we are all trying to stay up, and keep Dads hopes up.

Times like these really do make you realize what matters the most. My folks got divorced when I was two, and Ive had a heck of a step Dad since I was four. My step Dad has been a really positive help to my Dad and Im fortunate for how good their relationship has been. Even though my folks got divorced my Dad has been one of my best freinds, since I was very young, and it only gets stronger as I get older. We are very much alike, frightening as that may be.

Something special about my Dad that will remain in me until I go, is that I had a desire when I was 14 to learn how to play the bass. Nobody took me seriously, and thought it was a phase, but that Christmas Dad took me out and bought me my first bass (a MIM Jazz bass, and 25 watt amp). He planted that seed of music that will be alive in me until I leave this earth, and that means more to me than I can explain.

Simular story with my dad and I Travis...one of the few times I ever saw him with tears in his eyes was after he and my mom saw us perform one evening. Never will forget how proud he was of me.

Sounds like you have a good family base to work out of in getting your father strong.

You have a wonderful way of looking at things, Travis. I really enjoyed your last post. My dad and I weren't extremely close when I was growing up, but I feel like we're getting closer as we get older. I'm 30 & he's now 62; not too long ago I realized that he's aging fast & I don't like that. I realized that I need to spend as much time with my parents as I can because, even though they're only in their early 60s, they're not gonna be around forever.

Sorry this is happening to your family, Travis. I recently learned what a nice guy you are and sounds like your dad is too.

All the very best to you all.

Hope Dad is on the mend and that something can be done about the shoddy treatment he's received thusfar.

He's got a son / family that cares, which is a damned good start.
