I'm betting the Nintndo Wii will change the market forever..... not worth shelling out for a PS3 right now.......

Smellybum's Daily Fortune Cookie advice.

The Nintendp Wii.... that's got to be the lamest name for anything... Do you really want to call up your buddies and ask them to come over and play with your Wii? Don't just play with Wii experience it... FANTASTIC~

I saw a bunch of them online in front of various Best Buys near my house. They were out there for days. I got the feeling these were the same folks that camp out front of theaters when a new Star Wars episode comes out. Where's Triumph the insult dog when you need him?

I'm so uninterested in the ps3 at this point. I didn't even really care to read this thread until I saw it was 2 pages. I just looked at it to see what was the big to-do that got the thread up to 2 pages.

apparently there are like 21000 of them on e-bay. Some shortage, eh?

I think some of the early folks that put the systems on there got the higher bidders. I don't see others getting more than a couple hundred $ more now.

Stupid. But....for those that have to have it, it's their $$$.

A lot of the crazy priced PS3s on ebay were bid on by people with little or no feedback and/or they are no longer registered users. I'm betting some of the astronomical bids will mean nothing to the sellers.

I have a 360, that's a fun game machine. My brother is getting the Wii tonight at midnight.

+1 - we sold our PS1 years ago to buy a Cube - and haven't regretted it for a sec.

I did have a Wii on pre-order, but apparently mine wasn't going to arrive for launch, so I've cancelled it and will pick one up early in the new year.

IT'S A GAMING CONSOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are these people crazy, wait a couple of months when the hype dies down, shorly their fat ass kids can still play their PS2 for a couple more months until prices drop.

Man, l don't let my nephew play much PS2, if he's playing it while l'm around l tell him to get outside and get some exercise, and go play with his friends, he prefers to do that anyway, he's not much of a gaming kids, which is great.

Don't diss gamers sons. I don't wait online for star wars movies, but I do like to rock out on the XBL from time to timee (gt: MrRockNRoll). I love my 360. truth be told IBM makes the cell processor and the powerpc chips....there's really not much difference between the 360 and the ps3 other than the ps3 is more expensive and it looks like it's going to fall on this one. Lots of problems, and they decreased the processor speed 3 times on it. They recently displayed at a trade show and 20 something units, 95% of them overheated, crashed, or just stopped working. If I had a choiice between Wii and PS3, I'd be going Wii since it's just ...well....different. Very cool stuff. Gears of War on the 360 kills everyting out right now....oh yeah.

Scott you read my mind. I see too many kids- some i attempt to teach guitar too- that cant be arsed practicing guitar cos they need like 2 hours a night on their gaming console. lazy asses. so i'm against the whole thing really. i think there is a culture problem for sure, some of these games i see ads for on tv occasionally, its completely absurd. obviously there are people who play these things in moderation, but there are also those for whom its a real problem.

there is a real world out there folks.

Well, being a gamer, I can somewhat understand the hype. I'm not as fanatical as some of these guys that stand in line for days, or pays the overinflated prices on eBay just to get the next big thing.

I did get a 360 on launch day, but it was total luck. I happened to go to a store that was selling them on a lottery system. Everyobody that wanted one got a ticket, and the lucky ones their number called. I got lucky.

I do play in moderation. I can leave my system alone for a week or two, then I pick up the sticks and play through a game. Usually, my guitar playing and video gaming go on opposing levels of interest. When I'm big into one, the other slides off into the background.

It's just another thing for me to drop money on. My two biggest addictions are guitars and video games.

I've got nothing against Gamers... as being a youth leader at my church I've had to get into some gaming so I could have somthing to talk about with the students. I down own a PS2 but I don't think it's been on in 2-3 years.
If i've got time to spare i pick up my guitar and play... that's my heart and passion.I actually have a friend that wanted a Wii really bad and he woke up this morning and was able to get one before he showed up at church. and I was really happy for him 'cause he really worked hard to get the money to buy it.
My problem comes with the people who take full advantage of the HYPE and sell them either on CL or on eBay and sell them for 10x what they paid for it.

im not a huge, huge fan but i do see the appeal. i wasnt gonna stand in line overnight or anything but i did go to a local retailer about 45 minutes before they opened and missed the cutoff to get a Wii by about 7 people.

that was my bug effort. i kinda regret not leaving the house earlier cuz i woulda got one that way but, hey, ill get one in a week or two anyway.

im not a playstation fan tho. the wii is cheap enough where i could fork over the $, but even the retail price (w/o crazy ebay markup) is a ripoff in my opinion.

to each their own tho. im sure those same people wonder why I have 17 guitars that cost at least 1k each.

Know this fellow string molesters: I'm a gamer. Have been for a long time. I'm also a software developer and used to do light game programming as a hobby. That was a long time ago though. I'm not bashing gamers. My 7 year old is a chip off the old block.

I just shake my head at the folks who dump this crazy quid on the new releases.

I may jump on the XB360 while I wait for the PS3 but I've heard some badness about the PS3 as well. Apparently, of the 16,000 some-odd PS and PS2 titles ever created, half DO NOT play on the PS3. That's bad. I still play some of the old NHL titles and Jr. and I have been rocking hard on Twisted Metal Black. Can't lose the ability to play those.

interesting thread...

I'm a gamer, too... I used to work in the industry but left it for saner pastures some 12 years back... Anyway, we have all the last gen consoles in the house (PS2, GameCube, XBox) but haven't invested in any of the next-gen stuff yet... Gears of War almost got me to buy a 360, but then I went over to the XBox forums to see what the latest dope on the system was and their disasterous forced update from October that killed a bunch of systems turned me off the idea - I'll wait a little longer... Everyone in the house is playing with the PSP and DS lately, anyway... I agree with Smelly that the Wii looks set to be the choice for casual gaming for the next gen, and I suspect that unless they drop the ball big time, Microsoft will at least hold their own with Sony for the hardcore gaming audience, and could well eclipse them in sales over the long term with the right software - the PSP is really priced beyond reason, and if you look at the way the thing is built (half the interior of the case is taken up by just fan and heat sink) you've got to wonder about it's long term reliability. The fact that it's packed with untried hardware doesn't ease my mind, either... Fanatics are fanatics though, and some people do crazy stuff with their money. Paying $5000 for a game console doesn't strike me as intrinsically any more insane than paying $150,000 for a guitar, and people will do that... to each their own... Me, I'll be waiting another year for a 360, and at least two for a PS3... A Wii will probably find its way into the house as a graduation present for the kids this spring, though...

Yeah. Me too. I've had fun playing some Madden, some of the PS1 fighting games, Gran Tourismo, Halo, etc. It's fun, but I just can't get super excited so much so that I have to camp out to get a console, game, etc.

It's only Xbox for me. I just prefer the games more. It's all preference though.

When HALO 3 comes out, I'll definitely cave and get a 360. I figure they'll have a price drop by then. I think the PS3 for $599 is just ridiculous.

my gamer tag is SKUTCH if anyone wants to send a friend request via xbox live.

I've pretty much stuck to XBox/360. I am considering the Wii, but that one might come later.

Muerte2004 is my GT. I'm up for Halo 2 anytime.
