So I finally got a round tuit

When you see the picture maybe you will understand why the other effect boxes have set in my cabinet for so long. This is the controller for the Johnson amp. The effects processor is effectively a Digitech 2120 built into a 150-watt tube amp with two Celestion V-30s. Then I got the matching 2x12 cabinet. The stereo is scary good sounding. With the effects processor ANY parameter on ANY effect can be controlled with a rocker pedal. Want to rock in just a touch more delay to help that note sustain at the end of a solo? Two "volume" type pedals came with the floorboard and the back of the amp lets you plug in 2 more. Notice there is only one line coming from the Ernie Ball Volume Hammers. The EBVH's are used as voltage controllers to vary parameters on the processor. I generally set the four rockers to control. From left to right. Effects mix (generally chorus delay and reverb), Volume, Clean and dirty channels, Wah. The "rock in" idea is a Steve Morse invention. I don't know if Digitech even does this anymore. You can do it on the Cyber Twin but only with one parameter per preset. Not four like on the Johnson Millennium. Then all of my effects are wired up with only three cables. One Din 5 midi for the Johnson controller and two 1/4" mono cables for the EBVH's.

The other pedals are just a midi controller that run to a midi sound generator so I can get the cool deep bass sounds ala Rush and Floyd. They are cool in many ways.

Norm, that's an awesome idea, the vols to continuous control, Petrucci does this now too. There's no way I could d that with my current rig (see a few posts back). I'm all stompy at this point. Eventually I may switch up to a GCX and GC Pro with a Mod Pro and Delay Pro in the loops and rack my Whammy IV...that would about do it save for maybe an additional delay pedal and a Dunlop RackWah. I dunno. I'm about to add another delay pedal and a Fulldrive II to the fray. All this gets plugged into the front end of a Dual Recto.

I was going to take apicture of my floor...but then I thought just telling you about my plan to take apicture of my floor would give you the idea.

So, there you go.

I have a Peavey TubeFex that has all the effects I could ever want....

I'm semi-activly looking for a Midi foot controller, but I'm not in any hurry :)

Thought I'd revive this old thread with a picture of my recently updated board. Thanks to Mike @ NYC Pedalboards for the great custom-sized board.

I know some of the people on this board have a lot of knowledge about electronics, maybe you could aswer this:
I'm considering buying a MXR stereo chorus, but there's one problem. It runs on 18 V. I could buy a 18V DC power supply, but then I'd have to have 2 power supplys, one 9V and one 18V. Is it possible to attach a voltage regulator to a 18V powersupply to get both 9 and 18V? That way I'd only need one psu.

Wow, "The new guy", that's clean as a whistle! However, if you want to switch stuff around it seems that would be a problem. Here's mine:

pedalboard.jpg

Guitar-> EB 6166 Volume -> Keeley modded Dunlop GCB-95 Wah -> AnalogMan 808'd TS9 OD -> Zoom 5000 Driver Distortion -> RAT II -> true bypassed vintage block logo MXR Phase 90 -> Voodoo Lab Tremolo -> Danelectro Fish & Chips EQ -> Boss DD-20 Delay

Also, Boss TU-12H Tuner. Into amp (usually Allen Old Flame 2x10).

Sometimes I replace the RAT with an MJM Foxey Fuzz or a Way Huge Swollen Pickle...but those have got to be worth so much $$ I'm about afraid to touch it. :)

Also, I sometimes trade out the TS9 for a Keeley/Boss Blues Driver.

Some manufacturers of power supplies have both 9V and 18V outputs on the same device. Try Dunlop DC brick or Vodoo Labs.

I'm too lazy to grab my camera and click a pic, here it is in text:

Guitar -> Teese Wizard wah -> Peterson Strobostomp -> Home Brew Psilocybe phaser -> Keeley modded Boss MT-2 -> Keeley modded Boss DS-1 -> Keeley Fuzz Head -> Keeley modded Boss DD-3 -> ZVex Tremolo Probe

all squeezed onto a Pedaltrain 2 board with a Voodoo Labs PP2+ power supply and all George L wiring

amp of choice and my only one -> Fuchs Blackjack 21 w/ both a sealed Matamp 2x12 cabinet and a convertible Groove Tubes 1x12 cabinet running through a Weber Z-matcher to take care of my impedance mismatches

Helps if you add the image!

Hey Tim, as someone who is looking to downsize after putting my back out one to many times lugging tons of Marshall around, your Engl setup looks wicked. Could you give me a bit of a lowdown on it? What models do you have? How does it sound? How versatile? Is it loud enough for un-miked-up pub gigs (for example the Grey Horse)? Any local stockists to us?

Thanks in advance:D

OK, it's kind of anal, but I actually keep a pretty good photo record of my gigging rig, to chronicle it's changing face over time.

My pedalboard changes a lot depending on the gig, the guitar I'm using, and my mood. For a blues gig I might just use a boost pedal, but the pic is pretty typical for a cover band gig, where I want to cover a lot of sonic territory. Lately the BB Preamp or my Zendrive have been the constants. I have a Klon Centaur too, that sees a lot of use.

Ah, the Engl Saga!

The amp was a Soverign 100w. 1x12" with 1x12" sealed back cab. Both had Vintage 30's and the amp had 4 channels with 2 master volumes. It sounded fantastic, and was plenty loud! Sadly Engl's QC and after sales is terrible. This amp shipped with microphonic pre-amp valves and the output transformer failed after 3 months. It took Engl 4 months to fix it, and when it came back it didnt sound that good. I lost faith and sold it and lost about £600 on it.

The distributor in the UK is esentially useless. I knew I should have passed on it when they kept mucking me about for a delivery date.

It was heavy though! Not a back saving amp by any means! Also the covering is terrible and peels off it you look at it.

Slim from the Hamsters got rid of his Engl's because they were so unreliable. I wish Steve Morse the best of luck with his!

My advice - buy a Boogie!

Many thanks for that. I think you've told me all I need to know!

It's a shame because it looks great and the spec also looks really good, but I don't need any hassle like that so I shall be crossing Engl off my A.A.S short list!

Agree about Boogie's. Dropped my 50/50 very hard once from quite a height. It didn't even flinch!

Back to the drawing board..............:D

Yeah, I've heard that not only are Engl amps unreliable, but when you DO try to fix them it is a nightmare.
