I posted this on another forum but figured you guys might dig it too.:)

Okay guys, I just finished yesterday with a very quick demo and rough mix of a song I've been working on with my new band. Don't be too critical at this stage, this was a throw a mic in front of the cab and get the general idea kind of thing. I just thought some of you might want to check out the tones of my new Randall RM 4 rig.

Oh yeah, the playing isn't exactly mind blowing either. It's just a very basic outline of a tune I'm writing. It just has acoustic guitar, heavy rhythm guitar, some clean parts, and a melody guitar part or two.

Here's a quick rundown on the rig:

All the guitar parts are my EB/MM JP7. The amp rig is my Randall rack system of an RM 4 and a Randall RT2/50 poweramp. The acoustic stuff is just the piezo line of the JP7 straight in. The heavy rhythm is the Recto and XTC module each panned hard. The clean is the Blackface module with a little chorus and verb from my TC Electronic G Major.

The whole rack goes into my Mesa Recto 4x12 and was mic'd with a single Sennheiser E609 (like I said, very quick no sweet spot).

The mic went direct into my Digi 002 rack and into Pro Tools v7. I used a little reverb over the acoustics and drums. Oh yeah, the drums are from Reason 3.0 using a midi file my drummer programmed fed into a sequencer.

Thanks for checking it!

AWESOME track man!! great sounds, basically the clean sounds got my attention. That piezo sounds insanely great and convincing. Overdriven sounds are good too, but like you have said, you hadn't found sweet spot for the mic.

Pretty damn good track, thanks for sharing, now my wait for a JP6 turned to agony

The layering sounds great. The snare is a little dull for my ears (not in your control, I know), but the guitar sounds stellar on clean and acoustic, and the dirty is well on it's way.

Nice Job!

Total mood music. I can picture it as the soundtrack of a movie.

I especially like the acoustic parts. :)

Thanks guys, I was posting it for my other friends because a few of them had asked about the Randall MTS stuff but I think the flexibility of my Pet that shines through.

The drum tones are still a work in progress. I agree, I'm not happy with the snare. I'll use another sample or do some serious eqing.

deadringer,

Nice track! As you said, the mix isn't quite a finished product (a little dark to my ears), but I really enjoyed it. I'd suggest some EQ'ing to brighten up the guitar tracks, and maybe a hair of 'verb on some tracks to give the mix some 'air'.

Now I'm gonna go play it again 'cause it's a very cool tune! :)

Wow thanks for the compliments. I did this as a quick scratch track to use to audition vocalists. Since the project I wrote it for is pretty much a 100% studio thing I figured it would be way easier to present this to prospective vocalists then to sit down with an acoustic and run through the basics.

The clip was recorded at super low volumes (daughter slept through it) and I just threw the mic up to get the general idea. The song itself is still a work in progress this is just the basic arrangement.

I'm really excited about the project as a whole. I've been so busy with recording other people's projects and doing the covers things (somebody's got to pay for this stuff) that I haven't had time to record stuff for me.

Now I've got two dear friends helping me out and I just need a vocalist to round out the mix. Anybody interested?
