OMFG.....a spalted AXIS???? HELLOOOOOOO!!!!!!
I can vouch for that. It was AMAZING in person to see! To even see the grain from the redwood is just spectacular.Fing -- you gotta get the redwood ASS. It really is AMAZING in person!
Yep me too!
Like Jeff (dibart77), I walked away from The Philly Show with a new Music Man. On Saturday afternoon, I bought the JP BFR 6 in Black Sugar with the Roasted Maple Neck (Birdseye). The roasted maple necks are indeed "stunning." If Jeff's picture of the one resting on top of the chair was from Saturday then it's mine and yes it does look black from four feet away.
This guitar is extremely resonant and sounds like an acoustic guitar unplugged. A real tone monster that has mojo & vibe. The three tone wood bodies (alder base, maple top & mahogany tone block) are real winners.
Forgive me for not remembering your name (either Glen or Derek) , but the one wearing glasses, you were a joy to deal with and I am grateful for the education...thanks Professor...and my wife really likes the Music Man shirt.
Sadly, in order to be able to own this guitar I had to sell my 1966 Fender Electric XII. So long old friend you will be missed.
Yep me too!

Man, Fing used to one one of the most beautiful Axis Super Sports ever built....an original KOA. It was killer. I think a forum member ended up grabbing that guitar.
Yep, I am the proud new owner of the Roasted Top Axis and the Spalted Maple Axis.

As Derek explained to me, they're both one-offs. I would have posted a show report on the Forum when I got home from Philly on Saturday night, but once they warmed up to room temperature I was playing on them for quite a while and then it was time for bed! The Roasted Top is warmer sounding than a typical Axis. Really sweet sounds -- great for clean sounds on the neck pickup but then really ballsy with the bridge pickup on my gain channel. The Spalted Maple, when I originally saw the photo on the forums, I said, "I could take it or leave it..." But when I saw it in person -- WOW. And she is a really powerful sounding guitar. GREAT for metal rhythm work.

So... Let's talk about the show. EBMM had a killer booth with so many amazing instruments. One offs galore! Roasted maple like you wouldn't believe!
Was really great hanging with Derek and getting to know Glen better. Both really good guys and it was fun to hang with them and talk guitars, jam a bunch of different guitars (they actually had an amp, whereas at NAMM it's gotta be headphones), and chat with all of the folks visiting the booth who had great questions and all recognized the quality they were seeing in this booth. Was neat to see non-EBMM aficionados getting blown away for the first time!
Was also great to meet some of the other Knuckleheads. I got to hang and chat with LegGodt, JNixon, Dr.Strangenote and his wife. Really cool people who all share the passion that we all do for these killer instruments.
This post is getting long so more in a sec with more photos from the show.
