1) my other, more traditional basses, feel clumsy and awkward in comparison

2) it makes me feel like my rig isn't doing the bass justice

3) as a result of #2 my recently evaporated bass GAS has been replaced by amp GAS

just finishing up the 3rd of a set of demos I was asked to record - the Bongo is kicking much butt!! Haven't pulled out the 'safety net' recording bass once. There is a great depth or timbre to the tone of the Bongo recorded that is chewy and full without being a spectrum hog or woofy.... the best bass I have owned so far.... :)

btw any medium-low power smallish head suggestions? Looking at a Markbass LM II and a couple other similar models.....(300W = PLENTY for me - any room over 80ppl has PA)

thanks

Check out the Mark Bass MoMark concept. If you don't need the power, you could get the 250W frame. An then select whatever input, EQ and output modules you want. Phantastic concept! I was able to check out quite a couple of these modules, and while the standard lowe cost S1 preamp section (as you find it in the LM and F1 and models) sounds absolutely great and transparent, I completely fell in love with the T1M tube preamp section which just sounds so earpopping musically creamy fabulous. Ahem. Yeah, fanboi talkin'. :D. Truth is: While I love the combo of my F1 head with the SansAmp RBI, I don't see any need or even logic in combining a T1M loaded MoMark with any SansAmp products... it's already tubey enough and you get get a great crunchy compression out of that preamp when driving it hard. No overdrive, just a tad of drive and compression.

For the other modules: I love the flexibility of the EQ42S (though I think the layout of the controls is badly chosen, I always turn the wrong knob when I want to change the mids), and went with the well known MVV output section. For ultimate flexibility I'd probably have taken the MVVL, but that was unfortunately not available at the store where I bought it.

For good measure, I combine the MoMark head with a Mark Bass NY604 cab for ultimate portability. Check out this thread:

(BTW, I linked all the modules in the text, so you can find them on the MB website).

Mandatory MM content: I went to the store with my pre-EB Sabre, and the MoMark added a complete new dimension to playing it. I love that I can have this small and portable rig around at home, so I can play every one of my other MMs and EBMMs through it because it lets every instrument's characeteristic shine. It's as if you had a new stable of basses all of a sudden.

+1 on the MoMark gear. I just recently purchased a LM Tube 800. It replaced my Mesa MPulse 600. More power and only 6.13lbs. I seriously considered the MoMark amps, and was able to A/B the LMT800 with the MoMark SD500. The only reason I went with the LMT is because it had all of the features that I would have opted to add to the MoMark anyway, so it was the right fit for me personally. The tube pre in a MoMark would be outstanding. Just the right amount of crunch and tube tone, without the weight. The tone is great, lots of shaping can be done if needed with the eq or filters, and it makes a great sounding bass sound even better. One of the greatest features I've found with the MB amps are their ability to capture dynamics in your playing. Soft touch sounds soft, and attack hits you between the eyes!!! It would be perfect for a Bongo. I love it with my Classic and Big Al.

Just move home after being away for a year from my bongo...(big city, small apartment, fear of being robed) and the best part was reuniting with all my EBMM's especially my Bongo! I vow to never leave it behind again!

Wait, so does this mean you are no longer in Atlanta?

I'd go for the EQ0 MoMark cause the Bongo's already powerful enough :D

try and find yourself a used Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout 12" Combo... Sound per Lb. There is nothing better on the market.. and used ones can usually be found for sub $800 and easily resold for the same amount if its not your thing.

on the list for sure - thought I had a line on a head, but no luck. I have a Bag End S15C that would like a friend....wonder if the Mesa and BE would play nice?
