I think the Sterling body (the wood one) really works great as a 5-string, and it'll be exciting to play one for sure
The SR-alnico and Sterling-Ceramic makes a lot of sense too, great work!

Do you have any idea on what weight the Sterling 5 will be (roughly)?

And what I'm sure a lot of people will be asking: will you be able to buy/trade/get an alnico pickup for the SR5 (for current owners of SR5s without them)?

I don't even think they have a final prototype yet with the 2% increase in body size and the downsized headstock, so I don't think they'll be tell you a weight range yet. My guess is about 2 lbs less than the normal range of the SR5.


I wouldn't get your hopes up for a trade in/sale program for Alnico pickups for a current bass--they'll be too busy making them for the new basses, like always. But, I can guarantee you'll get them in a shiny new SR5.

They didn't offer trade in bridges when the mutes went away, they didn't offer trades when the single coil pickup in the Bongo changed, and Apple doesn't offer a trade-in when they update the IPod every 6th week.

No reason for a SR5 with Ceramic pickups to change to Alnico--That's what the new ones are for.

Just a thought...

Could you have a limited run of these with the white pickup cover again. Just to seal the deal with many of us who love the white on white you rarely see on basses anymore. That would have me making a call sight on seen.

Otherwise great bass cant wait to have one.

I don't think the white pickup cover has been discontinued.

HERE is a pic of the new-style cover in white on an SR5.

I thought it was cause on basscentral's site they show white pickguards with black PU covers. I also thought I read that somewhere too.

If the Stingray5 has more than one pickup, it will have the black pickup covers.

But, to the best of my knowledge, if it is a single humbucker, it will still have a white cover with a white pickguard. Of course, my wife would have you believe that I have been incorrect at least once.

I personally don't care for the white pickup covers. An EBMM humbucker should look the way it sounds ... in your face and intimidating, with a menacing evil grin. The white pup cover is a clean look .... kind of an argyle vs. leather type of thing.

I'm just glad that it has the "normal" pickguard and not the SR5 pickguard. I love the look of the Stingray 4 PG and it's nice to see it on a 5-string.
Will it be available in all colors or just one special color?
