Backstory: I have a '97 Stingray. In 2006, I decided to replace the stock pickup with a Bartolini MMC. It had a nice, warm tone, fit great with the music I was playing at the time. I've decided to replace the stock pickup to get the growl back.
One of the reasons I replaced the pickup in the first place was because the exposed poles on the pickup had sharp edges, and were tough on my fingers. I saw that the newer stingrays had beveled edges, and always wondered when they switched over to that style.
As I dug my stock pickup out of my box of parts, I noticed something curious. While the top of the pickup had rough, sharp edges, the underside of the pickup (normally in the pickup cavity) had polished, beveled edges.
Is this a manufacturing error? Anybody else have bass from the late nineties that can confirm this?
