I recently bought a new H/S Bongo, absolutely love it. The one thing that's really frustrating me is a buzz I get when I slap the G string at the 2nd fret.

Admittedly, it only picks it up very slightly through the amp but it's still very frustrating. I've changed strings, adjusted the setup in various ways and can only get it to go away with quite high action. All of the other frets are fine but it's just this second one that's causing me problems?

Is this something i'm going to have to live with or is there a way to remedy the problem? Very frustrating as this is the most i've ever spent on an instrument; I have similar action on my fenders with no problem whatsoever.

Dear friend, you are new here, it is your first post, without seing the bass no one can really pinpoint the reason for your fret buzz.

I assure you that the best thing for you to do is to contact the very helpful and resorceful Ernie Ball Customer Service at the following links:

Good luck and do report back once it is all fixed for you

Of course that is well and truly the case, I have already contacted the EB customer support and was just hoping anyone who has had similar problems could hopefully share them in the hope that there's potentially an easy fix out there.

take it to a trustworthy luthier and have them check the fret level.

or grab a straight edge and check to see if you have a high fret.

If it's new take it back to the shop to have a qualified repairman look at it. Even with someone having experienced a similar issue, no one has the miracle cure, it could be an unseated fret or a bad combination of incorrect trussroad adjustment versus incorrect saddle height. I mean does the fret look like it is higher than the rest? I know QC at EBMM is very scrupulous and with the bass being new it is unlikely, but who knows the history of the bass in the showroon. I'd love to help you but this is as far as I can take you. See what CS suggests.

Thanks, aside from this problem it really is a great instrument and probably will become my main player in time.

please maddog do not under any circumstances have a owner with an instrument under warranty allow anyone to file his frets...I know it is well meaning but that advice would void his warranty and will probably not fix the problem Please let us handle it

read my sig please thanks and happy fathers day

Not sure where I mentioned anywhere about filing a fret.

Just offering advice on understanding the problem.

Mad what they would do if they found a un level fret would be to file them all down...I see all kinds of stuff...I know you were being helpful but we really want to fix these things....

". . . . . .see all kinds of stuff"

BP, that's way of an understatement!!! I know you've encountered more of this in your lifetime than I ever will

The absolute, simplest microscopic problem with a giutar/bass can be a catalyst to completely "destroy" the instrument for the remainder of it's life!!!

That's why CS is always my very first call - however, I've NEVER made one to EBMM yet. Probably never will.
