I've been a huge slapper for a while now, a lot of, blast, can't remember his name. One half of the brothers something? He used a ray I know that much. Anyhow, the point I'm getting at is that it's a lot of technical stuff that's quick and sounds like so much happening at once that your head is going to explode.... *Ahem

My point being that, given the sort of slap I'm a fan of, you can imagine I wasn't too keen on my neck P'up when I first got my first Bonger. However, and I'm glad Bassmonkee and Mingus talked about this because I've found that learning to deal with that P'up REALLY tightens your technique and tone. And so I ended up believing that Bongers are one of the best basses I've ever slapped on. And Mingus is right, they have Amazing slap tone.

Anyhow, if you lowered your P'ups and all is well. Good, keep it that way, whatever works for you. I'd just like to defend the idea that it Is possible to slap with that P'up there.

I slap my Bongo just fine. I think everybody in this thread needs a good slap.

Hey Sir funk

sorry if the hockey line bothered you...just trying to smooth things out.

Almo is one of the greatest players in the modern era. His name is Alexander Mogilny
but you don't give a rats ass so you guys would get along fine as he doesn't either.

Hope the volume thing works out for you...I wont post any more hockey, i promise.

thanks for almost likeing the Bongo!

GT6B and hot basses: caution

I use the GT-6B, it doesn't have an active/passive switch or inputs

I also use the GT6B, and I noticed on several occasions that it has difficulty handling hot or even 'medium high' output basses. I play an MTD Heir 5 now, and the GT6B does not handle this bass without distortion (even in bypass mode) if I raise the bridge PU to where I want it. I admit, I really hit the strings HARD and close to the bridge (just try to play Stevie Wonder's Superstition that way, it is awesome).

On the MTD: it is fine for the money, but just doesn't compare to a Stingray 5. But I need the flexibility of 2 PUs so I ordered a Bongo 5 HH last April - without ever touching one (they are not available for testing in the region where I live). It is due to arrive by the end of August, I will let you know how the GT6B handles it (the Bongo will be great, I suppose :) )

Peace,

Joghy

Just try to break that habit and I think that it will work a little better for you.

Sir funky, I think that's all what we were trying to tell you. I've never read anything mean or condescendent in this forum, in particular from guys like Bassmonkeee or Mingus.
Everyone here's always trying his best to help, and as you're a new member no one could figure out how experienced you are.

Hey
You want a cool bassline for Superstition?Try playing the line from "If anybody's gonna get funked up it's gonna be you" from George Clintons "TAPOATOMS"(the awsome power of a truly operational mothership)on the verses...killer!(it's a really great record as well!).
The GT-6B is a great unit with ,what I think, are some design flaws.I had a hell of a time getting the Bongo to stop distorting on the amp sims.I eventually had to turn them off and just run the bass dry with a little EQ to compesate for the coloring the unit has. That worked out great, the Bongo has an awesome tone all by it's self.
The hockey comment didn't bother me at all.I don't know anyone up here that cares about hockey, really , no one!It only takes a few weeks without it to reilize that you don't personaly know anyone on the teams, they don't live on your street or work with you...so who cares?!
I only lowered my pickups a couple of millimeters so I could get my fingers right under there ...it's not perfect, but I am getting along fine with the Bongo. It seems to me that there are two major styles of slap...old school(eg. Louis Johnson ,Larry Graham)and the new style(eg. Alain Caron,Victor Wooten)the Bongo just seems a little better suited to the new style with it's economy of motion in the right hand.
I love the Bongo!I love it enough to use it as my main bass on my main money making gig.I love it enough to go from playing a 5 string on that gig to fooling around with the tuning of the Bongo, with the help of the tuner in my pedal of course, for a couple of tunes(almost exactly a quarter turn ,for anyone thats interested). But it's not perfect.
Side note....it seems that smug, condesending and reactionary, have replaced, honest critical discourse.I blame reality TV and republicans.

Boys lets tone down the politics... I wonder if jack is having forum withdrawals!
Sorry... I took the bait, and as expected there were others who were equally "frigg'n proud" and ready to chime in... ;)

Jack having forum withdrawals??? I'm more concerned with how you're holdin' up in the role, especially with the nonsense you're dealing with over at the Battle Forum! :D

BP... you continue to blow me away!! Mogilny is a friend of yours!?!?! AWESOME!!!!!! and yes, I am a Canuck that, although not tied in to the point of knowing all the players, does miss my national past time. I prefer to slap over the neck but when doing some "old school" I don't find that my 'popper' gets tangeled up and as for politics..... I prefer a nice Warthog Ale from Big Rock but will make do with a Pilsner (or Moosehead if I'm in Saskatoon) :D
