Question about JP6 Koa finish

I've been looking for a JP6 Koa lately and have seen tons of ads, pictures, and reviews. Some are listed as just Koa tops and others are Koa Island Burst. Is there a difference? Were there two different finishes available - "koa" and "koa island burst"???

Looking at a lot of pics online, it seems to me that on the backs of some models the fade near the edges is more black than others. On some is it more red/orange. Maybe it's the lighting or my eyes playing tricks on me. Hence this post

Original Koa had Tobacco Burst finish. The new ones come with Island Burst. That doesn't necessarily mean that listings without "Island Burst" are automatically the Tobacco Burst, they might have just left the finish out of the listing title.

The new one, Island Burst, is more red/orange than the Tobacco Burst which is more black/dark orange.

Thanks Tanax for the explanation. So if I understand correctly, EBMM doesn't offer brand new models in the darker tobacco burst? Is the brighter island burst the only option for brand new from the factory?

I love the darker tobacco fade look, but for this amount of $$ would prefer to buy brand new.

Correct.
Unfortunately, the Tobacco Burst is discontinued all together, both as the non-Koa version as well as the Koa version. You'll have to get a used one or hope they re-introduce it/offer it as a PDN offer or something.

I actually prefer the Island Burst quite a bit to the Tobacco Burst Koa models, it showcases the entire piece of Koa beautifully. I am however a fan of burst finishes, it'd be interesting to see Koa finished in various colors!
