Ok Im looking at a used guitar at a pawn shop , veneer peeling badly , actually a chunk is missing( about the size of a quarter roughly, though not round.)
The question is ...is it worth anything like this ? is it worth buying and having it restored ? As a Carpenter for 30 yrs, but as a novice at guitar repair...I feel I could re-veneer it myself. I feel it would all have to be replaced cause it is so loose and the missing piece .
Anyway is it worth taking on this project ?

Ebmm make extremely high end pro level guitars, even used they are at least around $1000 so what you are looking at is either a fraud or low end copy.

Hey Eric
ok I get what u are saying ...it says it is a ernie ball and looks like the" eddie van halen guitar" that you have for your pic..
was interested in it as a project to invest in and try to fix. I am a novice at guitar repairs and was thinking it could be saved ,looks real bad but plays nice..
was gonna get pics of the #s and of the guitar its self, thought mabye they didnt know what they had..

At $80, it's far more likely it's an OLP or Sterling by Music Man (which were/are licensed versions), or a Chinese rip-off or a home-made job. Go back and check. Posting pictures here would help us ID too.

If the headstock says Ernie Ball Music Man, look carefully. If it looks like a decal it's a fake. The real logos are silk-screen printed on. Also look for the serial number - it may already be listed here on the site and if there is thread specifically for posting your serial number.

Of course if it plays nice and sounds good, $80 is a good price, no matter what it is.

Thanks DrKev
I did see the # it was on the back of the headstock , and it did not look like a decal. I can go get the pics if the place is open , and I havent plugged it in to a amp yet.. but I did like the action on the neck. Place was busy and I didnt have time to wait any longer
Also has a issue with the bridge pickup ,it was loose .

Hey - maybe it went through the Memohis floods or something?

Unless it's a Chinese rip-off copy, would have to be in REALLY bad shape to not be worth $80 - throw down the quad Jacksons, whip out your Dremel tool and have at it! :)

Hello

On a real MusicMan, the serial number is not on the headstock but engraved on the metal plate that connect the neck and the body :

The only MusicMan that has the serial number on the headstock is the SUB1 : the serial number is on a sticker.

Probably a used counterfeit that had been bought from china's version of Amazon. I had been trolling through google searches to find used Axis in Canada and ran into them. Their price on a new "Axis" was less than the 13% tax on a new one here in Canada. Sounds legit! Errrr ;)
