What was the first bass you ever bought? Mine was a left-handed Encore "P-bass" copy which cost me £110. I thought it was the bees knees at the time...

my 'first bass' was a fender Squier modern five string.... *shudder I'm glad I still don't have it

and one of my 'first' basses was a Ibanez SR somethign something..*shrug well I loved that thing and still wish I had it for the sentamentality.

Ibanez lawsuit copy of a Telecaster bass. Blonde with white pickguard. AUD$250 (around US$150 back then - 1974). This is the model .....

For my first bass, I paid $65 for a Teisco bass that was red and black. Never seen another one since.

A 1974 Fender Precision (natural w/rosewood neck) bought for £160 in Jan 1983 in Glasgow

Sold 6 months later for £200 (neck was totally warped but I didn't know it when I bought it) for one of the first Fender Squires

I got my first one for my 18th birthday in 1985.

It was a left handed, black bog-standard precision copy, can't remember the make, but my dad bought it from Chappells of Bond Street in Central London for £120 - we didn't know about the bass centre in those days - don't know if it existed in 1985? Later took the neck off for my dad to defret but he never did.

Myself, I bought a sparkle red Aria something or other. It had a ding in it from being in the shop and only cost me £120.

I then went mad and got a custom made, Jaydee Supernatural Celeste fretless five in traditional Jaydee Cherry. That cost me £1,000.

I later traded the Aria plus £300 cash to a shop for a second hand Jaydee Mark King which the original owner (who was the previous bass player in my band!) had paid £1000+

Last of all was my 1998 Ray which I got in Jan 2003.

I must get around to photographing my little bass family.

Mine was a JB Player P bass copy that I got from a pawnshop when I was like 14 and I think it was like 1994 when I bought it.

It was sometimes in the spring of 1981. I went the the old Arnold and Morgan music store in Garland, Texas and came home with an off white Fender Bullet Bass and a 60 watt Yamaha combo amp with a 15" speaker. I don't remember what I paid for either of them though.

Until now.

My first bass was a Yamaha BB G5 5string. It was a Christmas gift from my parents.

2 days before I got it I didn't even want to think of playing a musical instrument.

Its price was 150,000 Greek Drachmas.

It wasn't techinically mine - though I wish I still had it.

The first one I "bought" on my own:
