WOW.

Just WOW.

My cover band needed to record some new and recent demos for our promo pack and we laid down a bunch of tracks Tuesday.

This bass is decieving. In a music store or in the basement this bass sounds good. In the mix it is amazing. I thought my SR5 and Sadowskys would be better to record with but the 30th blew me away. I recorded direct with no amp or effects (I use a MXR Auto-Q for the funky tunes only).

We recorded Foo Fighters, Led Zep, Lenny Kravitz, Sublime, Queen, RHCP, Tragically Hip and even the Romantics and ALL tunes sound great. The articulation on the high end is much better than I expected. Better than my 2007 LE SR and also better than my SR5. All basses are single H.

I put away the Sadowskys for now and will be gigging the 30th and my SR5 tonight.:)

It is nice to finally own a bass that I can honestly say that I will never sell. First time I have ever said this. My other 10 basses (including the 2007 LE and SR5) are not 100% safe, but the 30th? It will not be going anywhere.:)

Man, you've got to show us the recordings! I have actually never heard a 30th in action (I may have done but didn't realise).

I thought you said the SR5 sounded better than the 30th? Or have you now figured out the EQs and stuff?

I'm with ya Baird. I (and my band-mates) absolutely love the way she sounds in the studio.

However, I've put flats on my buttercream and she's sounding mighty fine, too.

Phat and Warm versus Punch and Growl. Man do I love these instruments.

I need to find a place to put the recordings. Hard to share music for obvious reasons. Anyone have any ideas? I will add them to my myspace page over the weekend in any case.

I still think the SR5 is still a much warmer sounding bass for rehearsal, gigs and all around playing. It is my go to bass if I play at home and I rarely play the others. The 30th records better IMO. I figured out my EQ issues, but head to head, the 30th has better articulation across the board. The articulation is as good if not better than my Sadowsky NYC. The SR5 is still currently my favorite bass and out of the 40-50 tunes by band will play tonight, it will likely be used for 20-30 of them. The SR5 with ceramic pole pieces is noticably warmer and punchier than the 30th but doesn't cut as well on the high end.

I think I recorded Ramble on by Led Zep with both basses and the high end in the chorus riff is almost non existant with the SR5 but right there with the 30th. I will try to find both versions.

I have 3 great SR basses that sound very different and I have difficulty sometimes deciding which one to gig, record and practice with. GOOD problem to have IMO!

id love to hear the difference in the mix.. i usually just get to hear mine with some standard groove from ezdrummer as rhythm basis. not the same as a full song :)
