IMHO....relicing seems like such a fad. I personally can't imagine paying serious money for a high end guitar and have it look like it was dragged behind a truck.
I prefer to get the battle wounds on my axes old fashioned way...just play the damn thing!

Its a waste of time man.
Majority of people would not be interested and its a waste of the staffs time to 'relic' the instrument and it would only increase waiting times on other instruments and ultimately I imagine hit profits more than what they would make from relic'd instruments.

While in theory I think relicing is lame. It can look cool, if done right on a Strat, Tele, LP or other traditional design. I prefer the relicing that makes the guitar look older and oxidized but not necessarily like it's been gigged for 40 years by an old grizzled blues-man.
Also, the poly-type finish used on EBMM guitars does not age like nitro on old Gibson and Fender guitars does. So you're left with chipping it and sanding it down. This says nothing about the neck on a guitar like the Axis that is basically unfinished and if left uncleaned will look "reliced" within a few months anyway.
EBMM guitars have a modern look that, more or less, defies the reliced, vintage look. I'd say play them and let them relic themselves. The beauty of the EBMM designs IMO is that they look classic but modern. Let them be themselves and leave the relicing to Fender and Gibson.

total waste, no way would I pay top buck for a tore up looking axe, i baby mine a pristine is what i prefer, if i wanted a wreck i would just buy one used at a deep discount.

No, please no. I agree with the others here. Its a fad and real soon the people who do that will want a nice look instrument once again.

I totally agree with the other posts, while I do like the look of Morse's#1, it's HIS guitar, and he earned those wounds through years of constant touring and what not....to offer a copy of that would just be lame

I think it's a little goofy, but I can dig why some get into it. I think it might be fun to do a project beater, just to see how authentically funky I could make it appear, just as an art form. But I can't imagine paying 2-3 grand for one.

OK here is my position...
Im all for choices in the instrument world. Its a fine line between being inchargoe of a brand and balancing personal feelings...Personally I think that relics happen by the artist....I just cant get excited about copying famous guiatists scratches and dings and charging more for doing it. As I said if that is what people want then Im glad that someone offers them If you want a relic'd ebmm try craigs list!

My first exposure to relics was at Bizarre Guitar in Reno, NV, around 2000, where I went to try and find a Strat that I could live with. After trying out some 8 or 9 behind the counter wall hangers, nothing came close to satisfying my desire for an easy and swift playing SSS guitar. The sales guy got this big smile and said he'd be right back with the best Strats in the house. He returned with 4 CS relics in their cases. I confess, I didn't get it at all, as he gleefully went into detail about how they soak the shiny parts in salt water and throw keys at the body from across the room to give them a naturally broken in look.
Two side effects that come to mind are 1) it must confuse the heck out of the genuine classic/antique guitar market, and 2) authentically used and beat up guitars might fetch a better price, if they're one of 2 or 3 certain guitars. For the rest, it only makes them old and used. Strange, innit?

well... my opinion is that especially on "modern guitars" like mm´s etc. the relic-thing looks cheap. a reliced poly-finish doesn´t look good... period.
i own a fender relic strat and it´s the ****in best strat i could get for that money - first i wasn´t too wild about the relic-thing but on this strat it looks just KILLER - and some say the whole process affects the sound (cracks in the nitro-finish, etc.) i don´t know what they are doing at the fender custom-shop but i think the relics are the best strats you can get... mine has some serious mojo...
