i like both, maple is hard & sounds hot, rosewood is more "reactive", it gets wet with your fingers...

ebony is very nice too, because it is really soft.

for me, rosewood stays the best compromise.

Did you get rid of all your Ibanez gear, Robelinda? Even your Jem?

one thing i like about the Musicman rosewood boards is they are thick. The Silo I used to have and the Sub I have now both have a fair ol' slab of it.I like that:)

That's true. Took a good look at this during my last string change, really thick rosewood. That has to have a dynamic effect on tone, more than the typical thin rosewood slab top.

And unless I'm mistaking, the maple has no cap but is one solid piece of maple neck.

The top of the board is a maple cap (taken off for the truss rod ) ... it's just incredibly well matched! Have a close look; it's tough to see.

If you look up by the nut you should just see where EB has spliced them back together.

I would swear that it was one piece bit quite clearly it is not.

Man, I just tonight changed strings on my maple SS, cleaned the neck and gave close inspection. I could not detect a cap. Do they cut the cap from the actual neck? Looking at it right now. Sometimes I think I see a cap, then it just looks like grain. Mine's got a painted headstock, can't see the seam up by the nut. I flat can't see it.

Yes they do. That's why the seam is so difficult to see.

Cheers!

Nick, is this for the sole purpose of inserting the truss rod, and, are the frets then also inserted at that phase? Or is this inside information only?

Thanks,
Bruce

I believe it is cut to insert the truss rod, but I'm not sure at what phase of the process the frets are installed. Maybe someone who was present at the Open House of last year will be more knowledgeable than I am.

Cheers!
