I'd like to start a rumour if I may. I'm new to the MM Funhouse so I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I'll go for it anyway.

What company is going to eventually make the BEST, PLAYABLE, 12 string electric guitar on the planet?

The answer is obvious. Music Man will. Has anyone any direct knowledge that this will happen..........or shall it remain "just a rumour" which I've now started on this forum?

Why is there no electric 12 string in the Music Man line? There certainly should be. Would any of you guys have an interest in seeing MM make suxch an instrument? I certainly would and I'd buy one the day they came out.

I'm sure most people on this forum would welcome such an instrument. Whether one becomes available or not, I have no idea. For now though 6 keeps me pretty busy.

I would guess that there is not enough demand to justify the cost of producing them.

I'm sure this will start an interesting thread if nothing else.

Eventually someone will suggest a limited run for forum members only, BP will chime in and explain why they don't make one, some will counter BP arguing why Musicman really should do it, etc.. Then the thread will die. Inevitably it will be restarted in 3-6 months when a newbie finds it and asks where he too can order a Musicman 12 string...

..or something like that.

It's Jeopardy, EBMM style!

In that case, I'll take "Ain't Gonna Happen" for $300, please.

If the answer is EBMM electric 12-string, I'd guess that the question is "name a guitar that EBMM will probably never put into production due to lack of market interest."
:D

:D

I'll take " That happened only once but it's attached to a six string" for $1000.00.

What is JP's double neck....

Yeah, I thought about that beauty... that's why I was careful to say that it wouldn't make it to production. Heaven knows, the way Dudley and Dargin are playing around these days, we may see a proto or one-off of anything! :)

Actually that happened a few times... there was a white doubleneck Silo at the factory, the twin to the one owned by that dude who was playing with the Eagles.

I don't remember seeing that one. Hysterical blindness I think:D

Now that I think about it, EVH got one too, so there must be more. Next category please.

"How many doublenecks have been made?"

No market interest? With all due respect, there are plentyof Ric's being sold and they're the most difficult animal on the planet to play. Fender bops in and out of the arena and they sell. Since MM doesn't need to keep a warehouse full of them, I'd be willing to bet that a 12 string based on either a Morse or a Sil body might be a thing of interest. :^>) Any other opinions?

No need to makes 12 stringers. Do you realize the time it would take to produce those at the factory. Not only that, maybe, I mean maybe 50 peeps will buy one.

OLP's got one based on the Axis.

Speaking of which, they picked up the Tachometer idea ala Mr. Horsepower. I see they are offering one in thier McSwain line..

That's one of my thoughts. There are a number of "inexpensive" manufacturers doing it now and all it would take is one "Mega-Player" to come out with a new sound and they'd be back in favor, IF you could keep them in tune and not need #2 pencil fingers to play it. I'm sure that many of us here remember sitting in the movie theatre and watching George Harrison.........yes? ;) I bought 4 12's just like his as a result. .............. and I'm a bass player.

I'm not trying to be an idiot here. It just seems to me that while Ric owns the 12 string market, whatever the size, MM could make yet another statement by bringing out another revolutionary product that worked the way it was supposed to.

Historical Statement of the Day! "I Come not to Bury Bongo--but to Praise Him!"

I understand what you are saying about not carrying inventory, but the cost of tooling up at the factory to mass produce such an instrument may never be recouped. I've met one guitarist in my life who actually owned a 12-string, and it was an acoustic. I'm 36 years old and a 4th generation guitar player.

So, from my personal experience I don't see a whole lot of demand. Maybe these guitars are more common in your area. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see interesting guitars like the one you describe coming from EBMM. I just don't think that's the direction they're going. I'd expect to see more experimentation with different woods, interesting bindings and finishes, refined body radiusing, and occasional brilliant innovations like the Petrucci tremolo bridge and the MM compensated nut. I think we'll see more experimentation in the area of baritone guitars before we'll see a 12 string.

Of course, this is just my 2¢ and a single message from Big Poppa, Dargin, or Guitarbureator could completely invalidate everything I say! ;)
