BP didn't say that this guitar specifically was a MM.....just that Sammy had some stuff back in the day.......

Ok!! My bad on misunderstanding the post BP made....I was a big fan of 80's guitars especially Kramers, and even owned a couple of Baretta's in my day's, but that specific guitar is not a Kramer is all i'm saying.

The one I'm thinking of was a red Kramer Baretta Sammy played in the Live Without a Net video.

Looks like a Baretta to me: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rvri_da8_E"]YouTube - Van Halen - Love Walks In[/ame]

I remember Sammy using a couple of EBMM guitars at this stage, I still have this show on tape somewhere, it's an awesome show. I loved Van Halen around this album, everyone seemed happy and really enjoying themselves, like a rock band should.

Scott.

Yeah, that was my favorite era of Van Halen. 5150 and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge are my two favorite VH albums.

It seems like there are a lot of mixed replies about this guitar. The only thing that is certain is that it has a 4/2 headstock haha. Thanks for the info!

that YouTube video led me to some really cool live performances in the 5150 studio, which led to some really cool old demo songs I'd never heard before! ...which then led to a scary 7 part video of a NAMM show appearance  yikes!?!

Looks like a Silhouette body, definitely not a Barretta. And the 4+2 headstock is painted to match the body, ala EBMM. But the neck doesn't look like a Silo neck. Notice the upper frets on the body taper off from the big E to little E like it's an Ovation neck. And the headstock isn't the traditional shape. Looks to me like its a custom neck, Kaman family??, on a Silo body. Very intersting guitar....

Obviously you're not referencing the guitar in the Youtube video I posted. Can you post a link to the guitar you're referring to? I'd like to see it.

OK the neck does look like a Silo neck the video is not good enough quality to see how many frets or maybe it's my eyes.. tired at the moment..

yup have to agree looks like a Silo

My mistake...

Honestly, the Youtube video and my DVD of the concert both appear to be a Baretta with the hockeystick headstock, stylized Strat body, angled single pickup and all.

I don't see it as anything but an 80's Kramer.

I just watched the Dallas footage again....

Sammy plays a Kramer during "I Can't Drive 55"

During "One Way To Rock"...the red guitar clearly has a 4+2 headstock, and the horns are beveled. Check it out starting at 4:18.

And he had a signature Washburn a few years ago. He's kind of been all over the map...
