I'm considering upgrading the bridge pickup in my SBMM Silo30 (avatar picture). Which spacing do I need on the new pickup - standard or F-spaced? As you can see the guitar has the vintage tremolo not a Floyd-style.

Thanks

Good rule of thumb for silo guitars is Fspaced bridge and regular spaced neck. The specs for SBMM are pretty close if not exactly the same as EBMM silos. So F-Spaced would be my reccomendation for a bridge pickup.

*edit* AAAAH, Nick beat me to it!

Why not keep it stock and buy one of our new Silo30D models with the DiMarzio's already loaded ;)

I'd do that...

by the time you buy the pickups and pay shop fees you're looking pretty close to having another SBMM Silo30d

Pickup is $75 free shipping out the door. I'll install it myself. Can't afford a $600 guitar atm which looks exactly the same as mine with different pickups. I'll end up coming home from work with my stuff in a plastic bag on the driveway. "Wife - wth? you haven't paid off the last guitar you bought yet!" Me - "uhmm....."<runs out the door>. Wouldn't be pretty.

Maybe down the road I'll trade mine in on a different colored one (hope new colors come out the next few years) with the DiMarzio's in it.

PICS!!

oh that didn't actually happen..

And there's something to be said for modifying a guitar. Makes it a little more personal in a way. Plus if you've bonded with a specific instrument... a new one might not be the same!

The next question is which DiMarzio pick up is closest to the one in the EBMM silhouette?

The one in our new Silo30D! Think of it this way, if you bought the new Silo30D, you'll be single, then you'd be out playing on stages in front of all the wild women that would love you for your tone! :)

Just kidding! That might be a question that Pete DuBaldo could answer, as he is pretty 'in the know' with these sorts of things.

Pete, are you here?

Lol I like your sense of humor Brian! :). Like I said above if you come out with some new colors next year and beyond I will trade in my old one. In the mean time I think a pup upgrade is in order.

I'm here, sorry it took so long, was getting frisky backstage.

I believe the Silo humbuckers are close to the Dimarzio Vintage PAF.

will update tomorrow if incorrect.

Pete, I did the pickup selector on the DiMarzio site, and had to choose between the Vintage PAF and the AT-1. I went for the AT-1 with my Silo, and it works beautifully. I get a wide range of tones just using the volume knob. I'm sure the PAF would be awesome too, but I think the T-1 fits the Silo better. It's a wood thing I guess.

Pete - I know your still reeling from that beautiful new JP100D-RRB you got in, but any chance you might know on this, or did Vito hit it on the nose?

If it is the Dimarzio vintage PAF the pickup isn't available. It hasn't been made by them for years from the research I've done.

I just spoke with DiMarzio and the current Silhouette bridge pickup is similar to the PAF but slightly brighter. The DiMarzio PAF is a little bit louder and fatter than what is in the Silhouette.

Oh yeah, F-spaced in the bridge.

I dropped a DiMarzio Eric Johnson (DP212) in my Silo Special, and have not looked back since. I used to hate the guitar, now I can't get enough of it. I actually love the pup so much, I ordered the DP212 and DP211 (neck) to drop in my Axis Supersport, and there should be a set of Axis pups on the market soon, as long as my tech doesn't have any issues with utilizing the 5 way switch, which I doubt will be a problem. Get F spaced.

The next question is which DiMarzio pick up is closest to the one in the EBMM silhouette?

Thanks Rufedges! So many choices :). Yours sounds very intriguing. I guess in the end what I need to figure out is for what sound I'm going and then which pickup will get me there.

Thanks to all for the help!
