hmmm

my suggestion is...

go back to that store with the Stingray you already own. Then play the Sterling for a bit, then the Stingray, then the Sterling etc

Do you notice a difference in the necks? A lot of people find the neck for one "fits" their hands better.

So with that - if you love the Sterling neck then I say you should get a Sterling somewhere else, since that one is beat to hell. If you're still more at home with the Stingray, well then buy a 2 humbucker Stingray somewhere else.

Personally my favorites are the Sterling HS and the Stingray HH (in that order). But obviously we're differnent people w/ different tastes.

I bought my first EBMM bass about a month ago and am looking to get a second one. I was curious as to how others had decided on what to get as a second bass. I've only been playing for a month, but I know I really want to get another MM.

Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

Melissa

I originally got a Stingray, but thought I might like the smaller body and neck of a Sterling, so I got one of those :D

bongo, bongo, bongo, bongo, bongo, bongo, bongo, bongo, bongo, bongo.......

.........who me?, did I say that?

but seriously, welcome, Melissa! Mr. Phatty has some sage advice. Try the feel out of the two you have available and see what you like. I've never played a Stingray, and I've only played a Sterling once, so take this with a pinch of salt - I have small hands and love the feel of both the Bongo and the Sterling, although they are different - the Sterling is narrower. I just Love the sound of the Bongo - very responsive, and absolutely devastating when it needs to be.

Great thing is - you really can't go wrong!!

Welcome to the addiction!

Wow...what a dilema....you have about a gazillion options around here compliments of Big Poppa, Dargie and all at EBMM.

All the basses are great. I personally love the bongo....but I have a Stingray on the way.....

I hate to repeat what others have said...but the bongo is one smokin' bass for sure. But, it all lies in you. If possible, try out all the models and see what "fits" you. Not all basses (irregardless of what we say) are gonna be the "one" for you.

I happen to like the tone and sound of a few other EBMM's, but they just don't feel right in my hands.....and it breaks my heart to no end....LOL

Try out what you can and then decide what you want. My 2 pennies.

The choices with EB are many Melissa. I could have been happy with my first EB bass which was the SR5 and was for a very long time. Then these fools talked about the Bongo.

I bought one from Jack and behold the SR5 has now been considered my grandson's bass as the Bongo is all that gets any play time.

Is that right for you? Maybe not. But, this company has a right bass for everyone. Including ducks. :) OR YOU MAY HAVE ALREADY FOUND WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU.

You need about 6 months of love for the one you have bought already before making such a serious choice as you are gong to have to make if you want another.

IMHO

Good and sound advice. And that's exactly what I did. :) Still partial to the Stingray, but still on the look out for a Bongo to try.

I'm really keen on trying a Bongo too - new Sterling owner here. I would recommend that you see if you can find another Sterling to try, as the neck is simply wonderful - there are no words to describe it! My hands aren't as small as a lot of woman hands, but the neck is so much easier to play - and the weight of it helps too - it's generally lighter than the other basses.

But like the other guys have said, you won't go wrong with whatever you chose - MMs just feel so right to play that you'll be happy with whatever you choose.

+1 though on getting a different pickup config next time, so you have a completely new sound.

And last but by no means least, welcome :D

You don't have a preference towards the Bongo, do you? ;)
but seriously, welcome, Melissa!
Thanks, Sharon!

I think the narrowness of the Sterling was what made it feel awkward to to me, though after hearing a Bongo, I really want to try one out.
Great thing is - you really can't go wrong!!
Which is always a nice thing!

It’s definitely going to be a few months a few months before I get a second, if only because of time issues. And since I'm curious to try out a Bongo at some point and I haven't had any luck finding one around here, it may be longer than that. :)

I was just looking at the pics of your Sterling. It's gorgeous! I'm definitely going to keep my eyes open for another Sterling to try. I'd like to at least try the 3 of them together. (A girl can dream).

I agree :)
