Just curious and thought I would ask. Did anyone else sign up for GC’s ShredFest (Guitarmageddon) this year. If you did then good for you and I’m glad you are going to get up there and bust your chops loose. I finaled in Phoenix last year and it is a great experience. If you don’t sign up then at least have your mom drop you off at your local GC Tuesday night @7:00 March 1st,8th and 15th. It’s a whole lot of fun and it’s free.

1. I don't live in America, :p

2. I never really cared for shredfests, we have one that some loser organises, l entered one year (kinda), but it was just full of Steve Vai wannabes, i swear to god every guitarist had a Ibanez. Pretty much every guitarist has got 1 minute to get up on stage and masterbate (shred). It was annoying cause it was hard just to go to the bar and get a beer without some dick trying to show me his chop, and they just got the same answer, "save it for the judges dick."

But if people like to ender those kind of things, l ain't got anything against it, l'd just rather hear a guitarist playing nice rhythm (which doesn't incluse a bar chord), maybe a nice melodic solo.

Scott.

Fair enough. It is a guitar masturbation :p contest to be sure. (I got first and third twice last year  ) But I see it as a good way to:
Be a D1ck h3ad
Show the judges my chops
Deal with rejection :(
Pressure myself to pratice and perform
Show a bunch of other Steve Vi wannabees what a Steve Morse wannabe is :p
Have a chance to play my music man petrucci that jon put together for me. That guitar is so bitchin' that all I have to do is strap it on and I'm just along for the ride. That'll give those Ibeenhad players somthing to think about.

My intention is to encourage everyone to get out and play somewhere. Open Mics, Coffee houses, opening or between sets of bar bands, a party at your friends house, whatever. Get out there and show off your ________.
I'll let Keith fill in the blank

I have Norm's CD Raz... It's recommended! ;)
What Norm has a CD...is he holding out. I make it a point to support all the people I meet on these forums, like Tristan and another dude on sevenstring.org...so get out and make CD's guys. (This way when I make my CD hopefully you guys will feel guilty and buy mine :D )
But seriously, Norm where can I get this CD?
Also I'm curious about this LettuceFest, I mean Shredfest...what do you do, go up and play with a band or are you just riffing?

+1

Raz - or anyone else - I'll also recommend NorM's CD. Send him a PM and he can hook you up.

And if Norm went to one of these and took a third, I don't think they'd even let me in to watch

But hey, my 7 year old daughter thinks I'm great, so I win anyway :)

Not interested...Nothing to prove.
Ditto ;)

I'm more interested in the craft of songwriting/composing, which can't be compressed into a 1 or 2 minute solo spot. Most of my music has 1 or 2 minutes just in the intro.

NorM,

I don't enter these contests because there are many other opportunities to embarrass myself on any given day.

I'd love to hear your CD, though! How many guitar-playin' rocket scientists do we get to hear?

What and he's a friggin rocket scientist...man I bet he has blond hair and blue eyes..and...oh I better stop there! God must have passed over me and said," Bless you Norm, he take these gifts I bestow upon you, and somone stick something into that little whiner overthere!"
