Great stuff gentlemen. Dizzy,that last Guitarist article is the none that tuned me on to Musicman guitars.A short while later I noticed a blueburst 89 6 bolt hanging on the wall in a local shop. I played it and bought it .I,ve since added my 90 ash Silo,another 6 bolt. PLEASE sticky this thread.
Hi, I'm sorry for the off-topic but how do you make the maple fingerboards/necks look like the one in the picture on right side? I have bought a Silhouette from musiciansfriend and I understand that the neck is unfinished but I've seen so many Silhouettes’ necks shiny, darker and very attractive then the one I have. Is this the wood or I can get the same result if to use the Birchwood-Casey Tru-Oil gunstock oil and Gunstock Wax?

"unfinished" means there is no polyurethane. The neck was oiled and waxed at the factory. What your seeing in most of the photos is just the natural aging process of wood combined with usage, Some do start with a bit more figuring but they all age nicely. Give it some time.
Thanks! I hope the neck will look nicer with time. I watched few DVDs from Lick Library with Jamie Humphries and all his MusicMan have super beautiful maple necks/fingerboards. Mine it's just too white. I wash my hands every time before playing the guitar but the neck gets dirty and it's noticeable and not so attractive. I thought oiling and waxing will make it darker.

The neck will darken up somewhat over time, but it will never look like the neck on Marantz's early Silo. The early Silos typically heavily figured birdseye maple necks, but that primo birdseye is in short supply these days. Since the early 2000s the Silos and Silo Specials have had plain maple necks and EBMM reserves the more figured neck wood for the other models.

I had the first close encounter with a Silo exactly twenty years ago from today....there's a reason why I can still remember that day 
I may be wrong, but I think it was a Trans Teal model (I was all hooked up on red guitars in those days, so I am not too sure *lol*) , and I still remember my initial thought - "man, that guitar is small" ...I didn't dare to touch it (I was already a big guy -physically- in those days, hahahaha).
A couple of years later I had a second encounter with a Silo that I dared to play...and I still regret to not have bought the one. But I was a student then and couldn't afford it...unless I had sold my other guitars....should've done that
It was an all black model (including hardware) that featured active Reflex SSH pickup config (brilliant PUs....it's a shame that company didn't make it). I remember that guy from the guitar store telling me, that it was a special custom model from the Frankfurt fair, that he got from EBMM Distribution...basically to show off 
The only thing I am not quite sure about is, what trem had been installed. Somehow I think I remember it was a Wilkinson.....but where there ever Silos with a Wilkinson trem? Maybe someone knows...

I don't think EBMM ever used a Wilkinson trem on a production Silo but they were used on the first of the Silo Specials from their introduction in 1996 until the EBMM Vintage Trem replaced it circa 1997. I think you could also get the Wilkinson on the Albert Lee for a year or two (again until the EBMM Vintage Trem was developed).
The early (1980s vintage) Silos used a Schaller bridge that looked kind of like the Kahler bridge; then came the Gotoh Floyd circa 1991-1996, and then finally the EBMM Vintage Trem circa 1997.

OOPS - make that 1995 not 1996 for the introduction of the Silo Special. Sorry about that folks.

Speaking of getting old and not catching things as you type them - the Silo Special came out in 1995, not 1996. Where do I sign up for "Typos Anonymous"
