I absolutely cannot play another bass at a gig. I tried taking my 62 RI Fender Jazz as a second bass tonight but I could NOT get "my" sound out of it, no matter how I tweaked the EQ.

Put it back in the bag as soon as the first set was over. The single H is my sound now, so easy to make it do the deal. I guess I truly am an "obsessed punter", I wear the badge proudly. Man, I love this bass.

Sometimes I feel like I'm "wasting" my Bongo HH, since the pickup pan always stays in the middle and the EQ is always flat. Freaking thing still sound slike a monster, though!

I haven't been able to find a single H to try out, but I'd love to. The longer I play the fewer options I feel like I "need."

I can't wait for the simplicity of a Bongo H... as much as I love my Sterling it can be a faff sometimes with the selector switch and the 3 EQ... not that I'm complaining :D I've heard you guys refer to the Bongo as "point and click" simple - would love to give that a shot!

You still can't sell that '62 RI and neither can Jack....

LOL That's right. It's not going to any more gigs as a backup though, once I get the Stealth. Looking forward to that one.

The single H bongo is like a nice pair of slippers.

Absolutely right. :D Wonderful description.

Jack tried to tell me that when they first came out but I was too old school hard headed stubborn couldn't get past the looks set in my ways blind and stupid to hear it.

I hear it now brother. ;) If you've been sitting on the fence about buying one of these take it from an ex-pro old working stiff bass player-these are amazing basses.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but you gotta get one. It'll make a happy bassist out of you. My tagline says it all. :D

Oh man. The pickup is in the sweet spot, a little pop & slap sounds a lot like the Stingray but with more bite.

I ran in to some people at a gig last night with "Kayla Reeves and Triple Threat" who said they know you, Ray. They noticed my Bongo and said they know a guy with an "orange" Bongo named Ray Duke. I told them "well, it's actually Medallion Gold, and sure I know Ray Duke," which left them at a little bit of a disadvantage. Heh. Nice kid, but needs to really learn to relax.

Small world, eh?!

Yes, I do know them Ben, for a bunch of teenagers they do all right. They have been subject to the rockinrayduke Bongo Experience.

And you're right, that kid needs to relax. He's a 17 yo guitar playing monster who played with my band at Willhoites last month (against my wishes) and standing next to me all night he got a healthy dose of who's yer daddy old school spanking every time he started wanking around. I can't handle that crap. Where did you run into them?

"Orange"??? Thanks for setting him straight, Ben!

Both the singer and the guitar player's parents haul their kids around the countryside playing gigs. I'm not sure I condone the pressure those people are putting on their kids. Kayla and Tyler have become friends over the last couple of years, and they often come to see us play, sit in (*sigh*), etc. Good kids, but kids need to be kids more than they need to be superstars. That's why I like Tyler's family so much. When he says "calfrope" on the music scene, he goes and does 15 year-old stuff. The upside is: I get to sometimes do 15 year-old stuff, too; like ride four-wheelers and shoot .22's! Heh.

Hijack complete.

That's is exactly what I wanted to hear. I love the ray tone. Now I have to try one...

I love my single H Bongo too. But I am also an old punter. When will the kids that hang out here going to show it the love it deserves?

Another +1 vote for the talents of the single H Bongo.

As a new convert to the MM bass world I can certainly say that my Bongo is the best bass I've had in over 23 years of playing.

I love the looks, the feel and the sound is exactly what I've been looking for all these years. I'm still working my way through the sonic pallette opened up by the 3 band eq, but I'm seriously liking the mid control - boost for a nice tight punchy tone and cut for a bit of slapping. :)
