Looks verses sound is an interesting phenomenon... I definitely like the look of the BFR better than the regular JP6, but if I had found that the woods didn't work for me (I'd always been very comfortable with how the basswood JPMs sounded), I'd probably be playing the regular JP6 instead. But, fortunately the BFR exceeded my tonal expectations by... like miles.. continents even. lol

But, I don't particularly care for Gretsch guitars, but the tone for some things is so amazing that I will have one at some point. Same with the Rickenbacker 12 string. I think they're ugly guitars, but I must have one. lol

I guess that all puts me somewhere in the middle. The tear drop pickgaurds have never done much for me, but Silo Specials are definitely guitars I need to have in my arsenal at some point. I love the look of everything but the pg, but I don't remember the last time I ever thought about it. The other awesome aspects of the guitar overtook a small little detail to such a degree that I think I even like the teardrop pgs now.

I'm sure there are scientific explanations for all sides of the thing.

WOW!!!! Fantastic looking and I bet it plays better than it looks. Thank's for calling the colour Barolo - it's Mrs OLPlayer's favourite wine which will hopefully stand me in good stead when I want to add to my balls.:D

when i first looked at it i thought it was cool. but maybe not different enough to warrant me buying one. now that ive seen the specs . i think i may have to think seriously about it. ive always like 5 way selectors more as i like more options. i think it looks a bit more intimidating the slightly larger body with the thinner horns. the mahog neck and tone block should make it really bark , but with the alder body and maple top and the chambering it should really sing. so it already sounds fantastic in my ears. and ive always wanted a guitar with an ebony board. im still not 100% on the colour. and the finished neck. but from what has been said about the finished necks on the bfr's ill have to try it. the only problem is. i doubt i will ever get to try one. no shops here stock musicman guitars and if they do they dont carry any range. and the chances of them ordering a ltd run guitar to sell are slim to none. i bit the bullet and ordered without playing my jp6 and i love the guitar . but i will have to try before i buy on this as it would mean loosing my current jp6 for it. thanks again for the specs. and thanks to john for changing things up a bit . to give us a great instrument.

Same here. I wish I could play one before deciding if I liked it, although it's probably good I can't because I'm almost positive I'd buy it!

So, can anyone really describe what the chambering will do to the sound? Will it be heavier, thinner, sustain more, bassy, muddy, quacky?

anything?

i want a new guitar and wanted something different than i already have. i thoguht about a carvin holdworth thats is chambered, figured it'd be a unique tone.... but always wanted a JP6, and figured the piezo switching is more practical, gives me more options on stage. So i was thinking id get the BFR, then realized its 10th anniversary time, and wanted the limited guitar. So it has chambered (which again is different than i already have a cool thing maybe) but what would do for me? I play primarily hard rock, love vh, stp, zep, dt, metallica, vai, kse, rush, etc...

someone care to enlighten me, as playing it probably won't be an option before buying?

also does it seem that this is not a limited edition, but rather a new standard production? someone else asked but i'd like to know if it's limited in this color for 2010 and maybe standard colors the following years (assuming it sells ok and production keeps up?)

(i had been eyeing the cherry bury and koa 6 as many others on the board have.. to me they are much prettier, but the new sleekness is nice, and chambered might be cool.. will piezo sound better?)

My guess is the chamber will open up the guitar a bit and probably soften the attack of the notes. Piezo will probably not be influenced much since that sound is driven by the piezo crystals and preamp more than the wood. Unplugged this guitar should be louder and fuller.

This is pretty cool! like everyone else I coud probably name a thing or two I would change but over all I dig it. I actually dog it more than any other JP. The chambering, 5 way, ebony and taller frets are all winners. I am note sure why people say things like it left something to be desired. All other EBMM Anny models have been for 20+ years so to see a 10 yr anny is cool! This guitar is the next evelotion of what his BFRs were and I down with that.

Some have asked what chambering does. It adds warmth, sustain, an almost 3d quility to every note and reasonants just to name a few. I still think the 25th is the best EBMM guitar ever but this JP is looking like a solid #2 :D HEHEHE

I think a big thing some have to remember is that this is what JP wants, it doesn't matter if you feel it's missing something or not what you wanted. It's what JP wanted and it's being offered for sale to you. We should be lucky to even be seeing this right now.

I think it's great. The next evilution of JP's fantastic guitar! :D

Careful. I said the same thing and got attacked for it.

I'm way ahead of the pack on this one... I'm already hoping for a Dargie III JPX. There, I said it.

Hey, that isn't half bad ;-) My fave is still the original JP (I wish the BFR wood combo was available on it), but to me, the JPX looks better than the BFR - and remarkably close to John's first signature guitar in both size and shape.

Cheers

Very cool. Not sure its been answered yet or maybe I missed it... but will there be a 7 string version? It sounds like all of the R&D with JP was based around the 6 string. You would think that finding the optimal chambering design pattern on a 7 string body "could/might" be different to that on the 6 string body.

Love the chambered idea... I'm really getting into the chambering for some guitars. On my 2008 Les Paul Standard, the chambering makes the tone sound "angrier" than my non-chambered one.

Damn... This might just be the JP model to make me sell off my JP6 to buy one... *sigh* Why do you guys do this to me???

Can I assume the JPX will come in a 7 string version too?
