The funny thing is I bought my SUB and am posting here, because of Ashdown! Nobody carries them locally, so when I was in a GC in New Jersey, I saw an Electric Blue 12. I just wanted to see how one of their inexpensive amps sounded. I used the SUB to check it out. The amp sounded good, and the bass played killer, so I bought the SUB. Then I also tried it with an Ampeg B100R, and I loved it. So I just got that yesterday.

For some reason, I just like combos (I think it has to do with my post-gig attitude), anyways...on my list to seriously check out is the Ashdown ABM C115-500 1X15 Combo.

I saw Chris Robinson solo and his bassist was using an Ashdown AMB500 into an Eden 4X10. Sounded super warm and tubey! It could have been the bass also (an Italia Marenello), I picked up one of those and the tone is deep!

Has anyone played both a Behringer BX600 and a Gallien-Krueger Backline 110 (they're both combo amps)?

The Behringer BX600 is nice, but it eats up half of my room and swallows little children. The GK Backline 110 is a lot smaller than the Behringer and has a higher wattage, too. How would you compare the tones? Power?

For noodling at very low levels in my apartment:
Fender Bassman 60, 1x15 combo, sansamp bassdriver di in front, or just a Pandora's Box and headphones ;)

For other stuff I have a choice:

Trace Elliot Series 6 AH130
Mesa/Boogie 400+
Ashdown MAG200
Mackie 1400i/Ampeg SVP-BSP

cabs:

Bag End 4x10
Eden 1x15

Have you tried the GK Backline 115? IMHO a much better sounding combo. . .hated my SUB played through tens, only when I heard it through the GK 115 was I sold. YMMV of course!

mule's fine.. ."blueye" makes me sound like "I'd rather fight than switch." :D Well, that may be true too! Hey, hope you find what works for ya be it Backlines or frontlines or sidelines or whatever ;). I tend to like a mix of tens and fifteens anyway. . .but I swear everything I tried sounded so much better through the fifteen than through the tens. Maybe it was the room, or just me, or? Never know, this kinda stuff is sooooooo subjective.

Good luck!

Stingray Matt and oldbluebassman , you obviously like your Ashdowns I was just wondering how the cabs sound with a five string through them at a good volume? The new Mark King MK500 head has got me quite intrigued............

My Stingray get's plugged into either an SVT classic or SVT Pro head into 8x10 cabs via a Sansamp bass driver or into a Trace Elliot 7210 2x10 300W combo with 1x15 extension cab (again via the Sansamp).

I've also used Ashdowns (probably the best sound I've got so far), Laneys (okay-ish) and Marshalls (not great, but then we were talking maybe 100W)

Hi Psychicpet

I bought the Ashdown mini cabs having read glowing reviews about them to replace my collection of Trace Elliot gear. I chose two 4x8s rather than a 4x8 and a 1x15 to see if I could get close to the sound of an SWR 8x8 - I have a friend who runs his SR5 through one. I have not been disappointed.

They are very loud and very deep, however they don't have the gut rumbling vibration on low B that you get with big cabs. I've had them for about 14 months and in all that time I've never been short of volume in fact the volume has only once been above 12 o'clock, and that was outdoors. We don't play huge venues, anyway if we did then I'd DI into the PA through my Sansamp.

The real bonus is that I have an excellent system, easy to carry and it all goes in the boot (trunk) of my Merc A-class still leaving me space for passengers.

Long time since I posted last time but it feels good to be back!

I use EBS gear, a HD350 amp and a 2x12 cab. Super punchy, deep, clear and loud!
