If a Bongo was your introduction to Music Man, what EB bass would you consider next? Would you get another Bongo, a Sterling, Sting Ray? After all, one can never have too many MM basses.......can one? ;)

Homey went through about a hundred EBMM basses (and some prior to the EB designation) and has ended up with four or five heavy-rotation Bongos.

And will now stop referrring to himself in the third person, as that is just odd business.

I still have a Stingray 5, but it suffers from severe emotional neglect.

I'm not at all sure that anything will get them Bongos out of my hands, but I am sorely tempted lately by the dual pickup Sterlings.

We shall see whether that means anything or not.

The Bongo does everything I ever wanted a bass to do, and that's difficult to argue with, eh?

the next step up is something custom made, preferably alembic. but i'm talking WAAAAYYYYYYY down the line. i think it says something about the bongo, its so good that for me to get another bass it will have to be a custom hand made bass that will cost thousands.

but, now that i have the right bass, i need the right cab.

If you really want to fit in around here, you should:

1.Buy a Ray

2.Sell it to someone on the forum after a week or two

3.With the money you got from the sale, purchase a Sterling

4.Trade the Sterling for a Bongo

5.Buy back the Ray

6.Repeat

:p

LMAO! :D

seriously though... too....
I have a fretted Bongo 5 dual H and a fretless Bongo 5 H SC Piezo , killer work basses. But I do have a dual H Sterling on the way as well so I'll let you know how he gets along with his brothers in arms, and how much time he gets. but rest assured that any of the basses form the EBMM catalog will more than do....... but another BOngo never hurts

Although I haven't owned several hundred, over the past year & a half or so I've gone through a couple of Stingrays & some Sterlings(the latest two, traded over the past week for Bongos).....I am now in posession of 3 SC/H & 2 HH Bongo 4s that I satisfied with.......I'm tempted by an HH Stingray......tried one at GC & was highly impressed.

If you have an HH, buy an H. If you have an H, buy and HS. If you have an HS, buy an HH. Of course you can always get a fretless one, or maybe one with peizo. If you have a 4, buy a 5...its really not all that hard. Actually the hardest parts is deciding on the colour.

I don't really know where to proceed from here. My HH SR4 and soon to come HH SR5 can fill all my bass needs. I may get a Bongo, but they don't come with maple f/bs and that just kills that model for me. Maybe a fretless B to replace my BB3000AF?

Man, millions of folks go to bed hungry every night and my biggest worry is what kind of bass to get next. I should pray and be thankful.

Rich. Im may be confused and mistaken, but its nothing new to me, so Im gonna shoot.

Is there a Custom Shop (Limited Release) Jazz Bass that wears your name?

Anyway, the Bongos are great. Next for me will be a Single H Bongo or a H/SC SR5.

Well, I got the HHp Bongo5, then I got the SCHp fretless Bongo 5. This week, I ordered a single H Bongo 5 from JackDudeCorp.

With the new one slated for August, I'll be hard pressed not to order a SCH fretted 5 to go with the group when that one arrived.

I've always been impressed with the consistency of Stingrays and Sterlings when I've played them, but they never really connected with me. To quote a movie with everyone's favorite 8th Level Operating Thetan--

"You had me at 'Bongo.'" :D

As I'm a newbie here and the introduction process is always important--and as there's NO impression like a first impression--I guess I can dance here for a second. Yes, I was a rep at Fender for over a decade. As a result, there are, actually, several Custom Shop basses and a slew of Custom Shop guitars that bear the "RB Classic" monikor.

As we get older, we get wiser and our tastes change--hopefully, for the better. :)

There's a guy from the EB Guitar section whose signature is the following:: "5 Years Fender Free". I like that.

Looks like my next bass will be another Bongo, but I'm being tugged heavily towards that Sting Ray 5 that just came in, too. It's got some kind of a secret "chip" planted in it that makes resistance futile.

While I'm here, one of you guys mentioned feeling a bit guilty about people with no food and yet we're chatting about getting more instruments. Just want to let you know that that's one of the things that I really like in this forum. The people who frequent this site seem to have a little something extra to add to the world. Perhaps it's compassion; perhaps it's something else, but I thank you each for whatever it is that makes this forum a pleasant place to roam. :^>) Peace: RB

Hey Rich, cool that theres are instruments that wear your name. I saw one of the basses sell at the Pit, and it was a gorgeous instrument.

Its cool to have you around. This is indeed a special place, and youre gonna be cool to have around.

You're going to end up owning at least one of each model.

Just nail up pictures of the Bongo, Ray, and Sterling on your wall, and throw a dart!

Although right now I am most drawn to Sterlings/SR5s (for the necks) Im sure I will eventually own one of each model. Alhough i think my next ebmmwill be a natural finish Sterling unlined fretless with piezo and tort guard. :) Who knows, though.
