Always wanted a SSS Axis and I must admit I love it more than my previous Silo SSS. I think the neck of the Axis is just perfect for me.

The pickup wiring is excellent on position 3 you have neck + bridge pickup like on a tele. This is really an Inspiring guitar

Awesome Sport, and that serial number is great, too! I've seen some interesting ones and that is right up there with the others.

Here is my Sport,

Is that a recessed neck plate? Can you post a better shot of the whole plate? I've never seen one before...

A usedtohave Sport. I'm told it left the factory red, so it was custom painted black before I got it, and a great job they did with it too.

Great little guitars, but the Axis neck carve isn't for me.

Saw a french guy at the Knucklehead bash put one through it's paces - he played ALL styles so it is a very versatile guitar - nice one to add to your collection.

I like the metal knobs and tuners as opposed to the plastic on the ss..simple,forever..the paint job front and back is also,imho,nicer...the ss is sweet, but gimme a sport anyday.

To be honest I think all Axis should come with metal knobs. Ultimately because it would save me buying them afterwards! lol
They also look much better with them as it matches the hardware.

I'm not sure if a sport would be for me, i would love one though.
I know u said the SS is sweet and give u a sport anyday but there are some vast differences in the guitars. Wood for starters, SS is basswood with maple whereas the Sport is just ash. I'd love one with single coils and hardtail but ive yet to see a finish on a sport that I like, actually dubaldos blue sparkle is nice but typically the flat colours dont do anythin for me.

Was there any sports made with tops at all?
Maybe even a super sport with 3 single coils?

Ive always fancied a Tele guitar and I think an Ash Sport would deliver that.
Maybe if it had a tobaccoburst figured flame top yummy

Yes sure will do tomorrow, actually I love the recessed neck plate, too bad they discontinued it.

I have 2 guitars with that the Axis sport from 1998 and the Axis Super Sport from 2000. I had an Axis from Dec 1996 that had it also.

The Axis Sport is really a very nice built instrument, I love the pickguard shape, I know many people hated it but I love this feature. I have ordered a new one in Abalone from Pickguard Heaven. I will post pic as soon as I will have it

Get yourself an Axis Super Sport with that finish. Change pickup to tele pickup, add a pickguard and you have that guitar you want :)

I've got a supersport dude but I don't want a tele that bad to hurt one of my babies.

The in between positions do fine at moment for that country twang to my ears anyway.

I'm guessing they stopped because of cost. It's probably hard to fit the plate in a recessed space after it's been painted and whatnot...
