Yeah, that's about what I get with my '00 Dodge Dakota (3.9L V6).

Luckily, though, my final payment is on the 20th. That'll take the gas-buying sting out a bit!
 
Altogether, the industry had a 25 BILLION DOLLAR PROFIT from June to September. Congress is launching an investigation but if they have the gas companies pay some of it back, who's going to get the money, us or them? It's just a horse and pony show for the public.

Aren't these folks supposed to be legislative branch and not judicial or executive? The words "Senate hearing" should never occur together!

Well you guys are just lucky that your government has had it's traditions updated within the last however many hundred years. In England we still have the most ridiculous ceremonial stuff that is unnecessary and a waste of time....yet makes me chuckle. As does the joint session. :)

Hey we're lucky with $3.00/gallon, right? It is SO expensive over in the UK for petrol. My friend filled up his Honda CRV with the equivalent of $75USD once when I was there. :eek: :eek: :eek:
 
Petrol is the most expensive thing in the history of this country (that is a bit of a lie). The guy I sat next to has a Jag and he filled up his tank the other day and decided to pay in cash instead of the creidt card things that are now inbuilt to the pumps. He only just realised that the bill for his whole tank filled was £88/$153. Ouch.

Good thing I get the tube everywhere.

Or I might just invest in a skateboard.
 
Ya know, it's probably a little simplistic just to look at the profits of the oil industry and assume that they are gouging. There are a lot of variables that don't get discussed. For one, there hasn't been a new refinery built in what, 30 years. Out of the existing refineries, they have to retrofit them to manufacture whatever special blend is required for a specific city or area, and producing all those special blends takes time. So, as the refineries age, and have problems as they age, there is no new refinery to take up the slack. This causes the a drop in supply. If the supply goes down, and demand remains the same, price goes up. It doesn't mean that it cost the oil company any more to refine the oil, but there is still less of it to go around. Therefore, the oil company makes a profit.

These guys don't have to produce anything to get your money. They just tell you they are taking it, and it's gone. Congress should have a joint session on that.

I do have to add a little levity though. So, with gasonline, you have to research where to drill for it. You have to drill for it and pipe it to a container ship or pipeline. You have to refine it to gasoline. You have to blend it to whatever enviromental standard exists in the ultimate destination. You have to truck it to the destination. In Illinois, you pay 50 cents in taxes per gallon on it, and it comes up to about $2.10 a gallon(today).
Water is the most plentiful, and easy to find resource on the planet. It literally falls out of the sky. People pay $1.50 for a pint of water in the gas station, and bitch about the $2.10 they payed for a gallon of gas. :confused:

I remember paying 3.05 (for the mid level grade) like Beth for about 2 weeks. Just paid 2.33 yesterday.

(side note, there's an Exxon commercial on tv right now on meet the press :eek: )

Anyway, my point was going to be that the gulf coast is still a mess, many people lost everything including loved ones, and you barely hear a peep about it any longer. Apparently, it's time to medicate the masses with the usual "teen missing" story which is obviously more important.
