Hi, my first time on the forum. i have a problem with the action on my new SR HH through neck bass, i can't get the action lower than 2.5 mm on the bass side with out an unacceptable amount of fret buzz, past the 12th, I've spent hours and hours fine tuning the set up and its as good as it can be, i am going to take it to a tech to remedy any high frets as that is all it can be...i think, hopefully that will fix the problem but i have also noticed that when the saddle is bottomed out on the e string its still a bit over 2 mm, has anyone else out there with the through neck had these issues? its a fantastic bass, sounds awesome,i love it, i just wish i could get the action down to where i like it without issues. any thoughts and input would be great, Thanks, Martin.

2mm=3/32. 3mm=4/32

2mm=3/32. 3mm=4/32

That does not make sense.

It solves to 2/3 = 3/4 ....

OTOH, 2.5mm action height seems preficklee reasonable.
Acoarst "[un]acceptable fret buzz" is a subjective term.

Normally I would shim the neck joint to fix your problem,
but since there's no neck joint, hopefully a fret dressing
will fix you up.

Hi Martin. Welcome to the Forum.

IMO, excessive fret buzz past the 12th fret coupled with an inability to get lower string height both indicate that your neck has too much relief (bow). Straightening the neck (making it flatter) will bring the strings much closer to the fret board while taking away the fret buzz higher up the neck.

I seriously doubt that you have any high frets, especially on a new EB Bass.

Thanks for the input guys, i took some relief out of the neck so its very nearly flat and it helped a little bit...still 2.5 mm at the 12th, any lower and lots of buzzing and the last 5 or 6 frets choking up but i can live with it at 2.5mm if i have to, i have my other basses at 2mm which feels perfect for me, ill see what the tech says on Tuesday anyway. cheers.
