The middle pickup on my sterling Goldie is dying. I tried clearing the switch but it didn't change anything. When I play hard with a pick the sound starts cutting... I'm unsure with what pickup I should replace it with? I thought of putting a 3 way to only use 2 pickups, but I feel like its blasphemy. :(

Maybe I should, its been a bit more then 2 years I have it. Its not under the store warranty anymore. It sad because I really the sound of the middle pickup. At least I figured it out before tomorrow's show.

Everything seems tight, I could re solder the grounds there all in a bunch together at the back of the volume pot... The hot on the switch seems good. I wrote to customer support. I'm in Gatineau , Quebec, Canada, close to Ottawa.

I'd get the multimeter out first. If the grounds are all soldered together and there was an issue there I'd expect problems with other pickups too. If you get the soldering iron out, check the hot wire from the middle pickup. It may also be the 5-way switch has a something loose internally.

Make sure you contact Sterling by Music Man directly, and not Ernie Ball Music Man. SBMM may be able to sell you a replacement pickup if needed.
