If you ever heard a SR5 before it sounds just like it.

It just feels a little different in your hands, a little smaller.

I just finished a series of 10 sound samples of an HS Sterling 5 - fingerstyle and slap in all 5 positions. They'll be online after the Labor Day weekend on the Bass Emporium website under >resources>newsletters.

The Bass Emporium is a new EBMM dealer, and to mark the occasion, they've asked me to review the Sterling 5. I'll be spending a fair amount of time with this model, because I'll be doing a review/video for Guitar World soon too.

I think it's going to be a little different since the current production Stingray 5 has alnico magnets versus the ceramics in the Sterlings.

I have A-B'd a Sterling 5 HS Rosewood against a SR5 HS Maple, SR5 HH Rosewood, and SR5 H Rosewood at a GC. They all had ceramic pickups. The ST5 definitely has a more throaty sound (Sterling mids) than the SR5. It has that aggressive sound that EBMM basses are famous for. The neck contour felt more like a wider version of a Sterling 4 neck.

My disclaimer is it was at a Guitar Center, so I couldn't guarantee the strings liveliness or lack of.

Bottom line is go try one for yourself. You won't be disappointed. :D

I love my Sterling 5. It's my main bass for my original band and shares equal time with my HS for my cover band.

The review is out, folks; and Ed has made some wonderful tracks illustrating how the Sterling 5 sounds. I have GOT to get one of these basses. I fell in love with it at NAMM and have done so all over again after listening to Mr. Friedland's sound samples. Thanks so much, Ed!

Scroll down. It's right past Ed's lesson.

excuse me, I'll only be gone a moment, dang GAS pains....

Ed rocks! Got to hang with him and Alain Caron a few years back when they were up here for the VanBass Conference and I tell ya, Ed is one of the coolest guys around. Awesome player, awesome educator and just all around great guy.

They look perfectly balanced to me. I'd swap my SR5 for one any day, if I could just get my hands on one first !!!
