I've had my new purple AX40 for about a month now and am loving it. I just got an older red stripe peavey envoy to go with it. This is my first humbucker guitar in more than a decade... Are these pickups what one would consider high output pickups or low output? It's just a matter if curiosity for me as I read about how different pickups work with different pedals and amps.

I feel the need to mod.... But not really because it needs it, just because I like to. Do most go with pickups that are hotter still, or less hot? To be clear, I'm just feeling this out. And likely anything I'd put in would be used or from GFS, if there is anything worth doing. Also, I'm using a solid state peavey envoy now, not sure how that plays into the equation.

Yes, the Peavey DOES play into the equation. An all tube amp will bring out the fullness and dimension of the pickup. Also, hotter isn't necessarily better. Sometimes when a pickup is just too fired up to begin with, it loses it's color and personality.

First I would look into some better quality amps, or even modeling if your doin a computer thing, secondly I think the pickups are a matter of personal taste, alot of people go with dimarzio, because they make the real axis evh pickups, and are direct drop in replacements, they say the closest combo is the AT1 for the bridge and air norton for the neck, make sure the bridge is f spaced, and the neck is standard.

I have a gfs crunchy pat in a guitar, its ok but nothin to write home about, you can get some great pickups for around 180$ total.

Thanks for your input, it's good info to have. I'll probably stick with what I've for in terms of pickups. I'd like another tube amp with either channel switching or a master volume, but also something that's not too big. That'll come in time. Thanks again!
