Forgive a guitarist showing his face over here.

Used to play quite a lot of bass in function/covers bands and always used my trusty Jap Fender Jazz which I bought in '88 and which acquired EMGs 6 months later. Sounded fine & played fine, though I'm no connoisseur of bass tone.....I just go "Bump, Thud" in the background, generally while singing. It's still sitting over there on its stand

These days my bass is only used for home recording, though thinking of perhaps trying to organise a blues band.(Mid life crisis??)

I've seen one or two Sterlings for sale on The Bay.....and since I have more money than sense......etc etc.

No chance of trying one out as I'm leftward and live in Spain. Not about to pay a new Euro price & wait 6 months.

Anybody want to talk me into a purchase and run me through the advantages of the Sterling? I know from my Silhouette that EBMM quality is top notch

Not going to buy a Bongo & haven't seen any SRs lately. Quite like the idea of the Sterling as it seems quite compact.....as am I

Definitely a killer bass. Thinner neck and smaller body than the Stingray. Pickups a bit more aggressive with the mids, too. If you wanna stick to Jazz-familiar territory, you can get a single coil sound out of the bridge or neck with the HS (plus three other humbucking choices). The HH is a fine choice as well, giving plenty o' girth to whichever switch position you happen into.

They made a few SUB Sterlings, I saw one for sale over at Talkbass a few days ago. Same great craftsmanship, a slightly more affordable package.

Did I mention they're sexy?

I own a Bongo, but I'm not going to tell you to get a Bongo. Personally, yes, I liked the Bongo better than all the other EBMMs, but they're all fantastic basses. I love that compact Sterling feel and that great Sterling tone. You won't go wrong with it.

Welcome to the Kingdom of Lefthanzia!

The Sterling is my favorite bass and I think it would be a great choice. There were no lefty SUB’s built. Coming from the guitar I think you would like the Sterling neck as it’s the smallest of the bass offerings and they sound killer!

Let me know if I can help you in any way. :D
