I thought that I'd share an observation I had in the Plano Guitar Center yesterday. I was talking with a guy who was trying out a Jazz Bass. I was playing on a Sterling. He mentioned that he liked the thinner necks. I showed him the Sterling HS I was playing and suggested he might like one of these with its thin neck. He responded, I'm getting ready to try one. It was a Sterling by Music Man, not a Sterling. I mentioned that they were two different basses but he thought they were one and the same, just different colors. It didn't help that the Sterling HS I was playing had dead strings and a filthy neck.

It's just my opinion, but I think having a "Sterling" budget series and a Sterling create confusion. I know everyone in this forum knows the differences, but we are the diehards.

Just some feedback from a loyal owner.

having just bought a Sterling by MM (as I've said before I wanted an EB MM StingRay but being left handed in australia proved that to be very difficult & expensive) I do actually know what you mean .... I wondered myself why MM called the new budget line 'Sterling' when they already have a Sterling series ...but that's their call, not for us to ponder.

This Sterling by MM is really very good ... if a StingRay was much better I'd be amazed ...and I've owned Fender P's and J's, Cort, Rickenbacker, G&L, Washburn ...the SB MM tops the list

SBMM are terrific instruments. I played an SB14 recently and could hardly put it down.

SBMM are surprisingly good for the money (just as the Subs were)
Something tells me that in hindsight, the name thing might have gone differently.
Now if we could all just go back and redo certain things in our lives....

I dont know what voices you hear saying "something tells me that in hindsight"

THere is no issue on our part or zero regret on the naming Its been disussed to the hilt. Get over it and move on

Doesn't bother me one bit; call it a lawn mower for all I care; they are great instruments at a very fair price.
Figured that you and the folks that work for you had better things to do than revist this item and the confusion it has generated.

I tried recently this baby at my dealer's store:

Feels like SR5, sounds very close to SR5, price for cash allmost 1/3 of SR5! ;)

I'm seriously considering that one for a backup bass! :)

Keko, I got mine last August, it's been incredibly stable and has a great playing neck, which I expected to not be as refined as it is at the price range it's in. I think it's probably the best backup in the market as it could easily be a main bass.
