All,

I have a 2000 Sterling, and I most often rehearse and perform with it in parallel mode. There have been a couple of occasions where the band played in a boomy room. In these situations, the single-coil position quickly cleaned up the bass sound without the need for much knob twiddling on the amp. I was wondering if others have used single-coil for these situations or for other circumstances---it seems as if series and parallel modes are employed far more frequently.

Usually I am also a parallel player, followed by series. I jammed with a bunch of acoustic guitarists the other night and I used the single coil position on my Sterling quite a bit of the time. This under-used setting seemed to sound a bit less complex and had a simpler, purer tone that fit in perfectly with the music we were creating. I dug it! :)

I generally use series for jazz band, with little treble and a bit of mid, but generally I use parallel. I can't hear too much of a difference between the single mode and parallel. Then again, I have a 1999 SR5 so the pickup may be a bit different than the Sterlings.
