More reliable? Depends what you mean. Useable lifetime of the pots, maybe. Too much wire flopping around from too much jumping around on stage could possibly mean a broken solder joint in a few years but its unlikely. Otherwise, it's just not an issue.

I mean longevity. Betters pots and proper soldering last longer in my experience.

I think the switches are the most problematic part on a guitar, those wear down, usually after 20 years or so playing. The rest including pots are usually durable. I would not change anything with wires and pots until there's a problem.

As stated, it was very sloppily installed. The vol pot is already scratchy. Some of the solder was spread around the back of pot like it was kind of smeared.

As far as OCD, that fits on this one. Definitely throwing some new CTS pots in and stowing it much neater and cleaner.

Sounds like your mind is made up ... but spraying the pots with Deoxit to get rid of the scratchiness is lot cheaper. (And it's good to have around- even the best pots get scratchy over time.)

I've got contact cleaner. Tried it.

I tinker a lot too. I do pup swaps quite a bit. Try different value pots, etc. When I rewire this one I'm attempting to keep the db boost and add coil tap.

We'll see how it comes out. Experimenting doesn't always turn out the best but, at least you learn something from it.

For sure. I have the bug too ... almost all of my guitars have been rewired at some point. Most every few months.

Thanks, Bryan.

I've always enjoyed it. Truthfully, after a couple of times of taking my guitar to a tech when I was younger i decided I'd learn how to do it myself.

I wasn't too happy with their results.
