Before I got my Bongo 5H I had a Sterling 5H and I loved it. It has a great tone that is kind of buttery because of the rich mids but when you dig in it really responds with a big punch.

One thing I really liked about the Sterling is it could be made to sound very much like a Stingray by turning down the mids but because it has a more powerful preamp than the Stingray - that is, the tone controls seem to have more gain available at the higher settings - it can be made to sound pretty huge.

Compared to my Bongo 5H it has a kind of old-school sound - meaning that it's not particularly detailed but more thumpy sounding. The Bongo H can be a lot more in-your-face and delivers a very detailed, tight, punchy response with extended frequency response but also with a lot of warmth.

What's cool about the different models is that they all have something great to offer with their different flavours - but also some similarity between them.

I'd love to see a Sterling HH with the Gamechanger electronics. I think that would be killer!!

NO NO NO...I always wanted a sterling.I bought a sub bass for a great price in the mean time..been playing it more than all my other basses Fender jazz,G&L went by by since owning it..

well I was at the guitar store picking up some strings for my martin guitar.I picked up a beautiful sterling plugged it in..NOPE!....No the neck is not as playable to me.the sound is O.K...So I put it up and picked up a stingray...THERE IT IS..It's just right.Oh and my sub bass viberates my body unplugged though the bass and the strap on my neck. Not getting the same vibe from the sterling I always longed for.

My fingers are medium and messed up from wrenching on cars bikes boats all my life.I always thought that a smaller neck would be better..NO WAY..I dont enjoy my jazz bass any where near as much as my sting ray.mostly its the wide neck..I love it..Oh and my G&L neck was wider..did not like it...every one has there preferences but I found that the thinner necks are not easier to play like Ibanez advertises..Thats ..B.S..And no reason to lie to justify costs those things are cheap..LOL

Boy oh boy was that stingray sweet...Love the sub bass.Sorry stingray guy here.

Gearhead, I hear you. I'm a Ray guy myself.

and a Bongo guy.

I just 'discovered' the Sterling...by playing one. Like I said...The RAY HH came out...after the BONGO..there was so much going on. I'm just seeing what I think is true, Sterlings get alot of love, but very specific to the instrument, the same way people wax on about he Bongo, etc....

I've NEVER played a EBMM bass that was 'meh'...They all work, and that's putting it mildly. Just getting the Sterling brothers to come out and say AYE..

Oh I am in NO WAY dissing the Sterling..I will still own one...Just the fact that I never really liked my G&L L2000 trib. neck I liked my Jazz Bass better so I just ASUMED I would like the Sterling. As a matter of fact I did.. I would pick them up all the time and liked them Alot.I was on the hunt for a sterling and the Slo special.I just overlooked the StingRay.I just changed my sights a little thats all..I am after a Nice StingRay first...The smaller neck is defiantly faster but not as comfterable for me.Thats all.

I am just getting good enough on the bass after buying trading selling them for a few years to understand..I am far from a great bass player yet but I enjoy them very much and EB's are far far the best.Love looking for them too..

Quick EB COOLNESS story. I was practicing at the Kitchen table today with my sub bass unplugged I picked up the jazz bass And Asked my wife if she heard a difference..She said Yea..That first one is a lot louder.LOL....Thanks every one.

I've had a Sterling a while back. By far the most playable bass I've ever touched. Sound was also very good, but less distinctive than a Stingray IMO... Still a winner for sure! :)

damn.........why is my pic so small.....is there a way to make it bigger?

weird......

The best way to post pics on the forum is to upload them to a site like Flickr or Photobucket etc and then embed a link to the URL of the photo. That's how you can make the pictures look big within the thread.

Cheers :)

Hey fly, did you try in Photobucket to scroll the cursor over a pic then click the fourth choice down in the box that opens that says IMG code, it will flash copied in the white box next to IMG code. Then select copy on your computer or whatever you use, go to your post put the cursor below the last line and just select paste and you should be good to go. That's how I do it. Hope that helped, Rick
