Well, since the story is "half out", here's the rest...

Yes, Steve wanted the original True Gold back - and how can I tell my hero "no"? :) - so agreed that he would have a guitar made to my specs and we would trade, and I happened to spec a guitar identical to the original True Gold (standard model of same color with solid rosewood neck, etc.).

To make it a little extra special, rather than just sign it Steve said he would "rub some mojo into it" - as the original did the short anniversary tour - so that's actually Tru Gold #2 that's out on tour right now and then he'll pass it to me after the tour.

So, everybody get out to see Purple on this tour and check out True Gold #2! :)

Kevin

Really cool. I saw that he played a 'mango' colored guitar last week. Very nice.

Sorry it took a while to get pics posted - but if I didn't then it didn't happen, right? :)

Caught Purple in Laughlin, Nevada (south of Las Vegas about 90 miles) last Friday, August 14th and had a BLAST!

Spent the day playing roadie with our very own Tommy and after he got done shaking down the rig at soundcheck he let me strap in and hold on - what a rush!

Watched the show from the best seat - I mean standing spot - in the whole venue.

Got to play roadie and hand off guitars - and Steve suggested a quick pic as he handed off the True Gold for the last time.

Was a fantastic weekend and can't say enough good stuff about the band, the whole road crew - and Tommy and Steve in particular!

Amazing. Perfect ending (or maybe middle) to a great story.
Congrats on what must have been a terrific night

Although...you probably should have insisted on playing rhythm guitar on Smoke that gig.
Or NO DEAL!

(For those that weren't at the first MM Open house, Steve played a few songs, and Tommy was up on stage playing guitar with them though i don't recall which tune/tunes, and this was years before Tommy was teching for DP...maybe Tommy can chime in)

Thanks for the pics! Great ending to a great story. All involved were class acts! I was wondering if your guitar would have the BFR inlay...glad to see that it does!

Kev, How much you thinking of selling it for?

Nah... I haven't sold a guitar in a couple decades... Have given away quite a few to kids, but not nice ones like this.

You'll just have to google for my obituary regularly to get your hands on it! :)

I'm late to the party on this story, but wow, such a cool experience. Congrats on a great guitar! I've alway had so much admiration for Steve and it's great to see that he's an awesome guy in addition to being a killer musician!
