So my point being.... USA sub basses are excellent alternatives
and not inferior unless you care about looks and prefer the different
finishes on neck and maple boards etc optionally on classics.

Oh, and resale value.

Zkyewz me but ... as to resale value, since all USA SUBs for sale
are used instruments, as a commodity a USA SUB holds onto its
resale value pretty much 100%, as there is no longer any initial
purchaser depreciation as compared to buying a brand new bass.

IOW, buying a USA SUB at prevailing market price is a risk-free
financial transaction. Find one, buy it, try it, and keep it or flip it.
Nothing to lose price-wise, and that warm fuzzy feeling if you do
choose to keep it

Question, re: ser or par wired SUBs .... Are you referring to the SR
type vs the Sterling type of USA SUB ? Or was there both versions
within the SR type depending maybe upon the year [IOW a design
specs change] ??

I ask cuz, in my own flock, my SR type SUB was similar enuf to
my SR 30th Anniv model that I found it a redundancy, and chose
to cull the flock ... keeping the fancy-pants red Ray and parting
from the plain jane black-on-black SUB. BUT !! ....

But later [5 yrs later] another plain jane called out to me from a
local shop wall, and I've had it for about a year now

OK, to the point now: My current USA SUB is waaaaay different
from my SR30th [still keeping both]. This is NOT sooprizing, as
my current USA SUB is the Sterling version [not the SR version].

The USA SUB Sterling version has no 3-way switch, but my ear
tells me that the Sterling version is very likely in Series Mode
[all the time] to differentiate it from the SR version.

I've never removed the PU in the Sterling version ... so I don't
know if it's alnico or ceramic. I've never hooked a meter to the
wiring either but did look inside the control cavity, and it looks
to me exactly like the guts of a regular EBMM Sterling 4H with
3-band EQ.

Sooooooo ..... whatz the story morning glory ? What are you
telling us, re: 'Some SUBs are series and some SUBs parallel' ?

SUB SR4 & SR5 (USA) pickups are parallel only. The electronics are the original 2EQ Sting Ray preamps for both. However, passive was an option for both. PUPs Alnico in both cases.

The SUB Sterling is different. Introduced 2004. No passive option, only active. Could be wrong here but, from memory, they had the Sting Ray 3EQ preamp (not a Sterling preamp) and PUPs with ceramic pole pieces and coils wired in series. Again, I stand corrected...we're going back 10 years or so.

There have been examples found of the sr4 USA sub being wired in series, stock, but yes my sr5 subs are parallel.

Well then, snow wander I dig it way muchly What a cool
hybrid, a unique but not wacked out voice, worry-free finish
[and price], and truly stealth cosmetics. I mean, the fancy
"Stealth" models aren't really Stealthy in the "bass culture"
sense, cuz their 101% black dress is so visually striking. A
black USA SUB is soooo toadally ho-hum pedestrian ... now
thaz real world stealthy dress !

Anywho I just luuuurrrv the tone. So it's bassically a poplar
SR4 3-band with a PU transplant from the EBMM Sterling 4.
Nothing else like it ...and they don't grow on trees ! Mine is
a lifetime keeper, even tho I favor some other basses often
as not, cuz it shares my DOB. I was born to love her, build
my world all around her, yeah yeah etc .... [as Little Stevie
put it so well]. And I did give her an abalone PG and Cobalt
105s for her 10th birthday.

Smaller "Noble" pots were introduced for the 2EQ at the end of 2009 (and earlier for the 3EQ). Shaft rotation is a tad firmer than the previous pots and this is probably the difference you notice.
