Hello,
After saving up for years (being a student is tough), last August I finally decided to purchase myself my first "real" bass. I played on my beloved MIM P-Bass for many years prior, which was worked on a luthier and played great but I was ready for something new, versatile, and american made. Long story short I received my bass in august and absolutely love the way it plays and sounds. The tone is absolutely killer, and it is extremely versatile with the 5 way selector switch and active eq. I have noticed the output of my passive pbass is actually louder than the active stingray (not sure if its normal, mainly I notice its software with the selector set to both humbuckers which makes sense since they are noise canceling and could possibly have a quieter output).

Anyways, she was born with some finish defects, and I just noticed another one the other day. They are small "pinholes" that go into the finish and can be felt. After contacting customer support, they agreed to have it repaired and most likely a new body made. Although it annoys me that there are these defects, I am afraid I will get the bass back and it will not play as good as it does now, or that the new body's wood hasn't aged properly or something of the sort. I am seeking the opinion of some experienced players on whether I should pay the 60 bucks to ship it in, or should I just keep it and enjoy its playable and ignore the defects. Attached are some photos.

EBMM customer service is widely considered as one of the (if not THE) best in the business. If they fix something, it will be fixed correctly. No worries on an inferior body if they replace it.

Thanks for your response. I am sure they have great customer service, I'm just nervous another issue will be created by doing all this work just to remedy a cosmetic issue. Since the mechanical aspect and playability of the bass is perfect, I am trying to get opinions on whether is worth it or not to send it out.

A new body wont affect playability once its been set up again. As for tone, you may get a subtle difference as you would with any piece of wood but im sure youll be happy with the result.

If you are only paying for shipping I would go ahead and get it fixed.

Thanks for the help guys, I have decided to take your advice and I'm going to send it in. Does 60 bucks for ups sound about right? They said it will take about 30 days to make a new body which isn't bad at all so I'll be happy to see it again in perfect condition. I have seen the factory tour and it is very impressive, I'd love to visit some day but I'm all the way on the east coast. I'll post some pics when I get her back.

Are you shipping just the body ? I shipped a whole
SR5 to SLO from NY state, in its plastic case plus
an outer carton. That was $75 a few years ago.

I am shipping the entire bass, it is covered under warranty. Does anyone think it will be a problem if they make a new body the wood won't be aged long enough? Or do they use wood that is already aged?

The wood shop at SLO is impressive, and if you get a new body for that bass, it will have been treated and aged to perfection.

FYI it cost 100 bucks to ship it, much more than I wanted to but at this point I just want it fixed. Thanks for the advice everyone, I appreciate it.

Well I received my baby back today. The paint looks excellent and she plays even better than before. One problem, the coil 1 is dead in the bridge pickup :( I called and talked to Billy, and now I have to send it out to California again after not having it for a month. I appreciate is help and he is a great guy to deal with, but I'm starting to kick myself and am wondering if I should have just kept it in the first place and dealt with the paint. All of the electronics worked before.

Right?!?! Billy said he tested it himself, and asked if the box was ok and to my surprise the box it was shipped in was prestine. I know for a fact all of the electronics in the bass worked before. After I got it back and played it I could tell right away it didn't sound like a stingray and sure enough coil one is dead (extremely faint in other positions.) The instrument is superbly made and sounds great but I don't see how someone missed the obvious paint defects before (since many different eyes get to see the bass in production) and now this dead coil has slipped by. It stinks because I've been unable to place this for a month now it's gotta go out again and I feel like it is going to get destroyed by ups at some point and I've just been lucky.

Rest assured we will get this resolved and back in Ron's hands ASAP, although we QC everything before shipping these things can happen in transit.

Hi willy
Thanks for the reply. I understand the situation, I'm just afraid it will get damaged in shipping going back and forth so many times. As long as everything is fully tested and she is gets back to me ASAP in one piece, I will be happy.

Thanks
Ron
