Hi everyone,

I’m new here, but sadly it’s for a technical problem.

I’m having an issue with my new Stingray.
I received this as a gift last Christmas 2022. I’m not a touring musician, I just play for myself. Farthest the bass goes is to the living room. This thing is my child, and I treat it better than anything else I own lol. She’s well loved and well babied. :D

So, I have eliminated everything. Bass, right into Ampeg Rocket Bass 210. My other basses have no issue. And my Stingray makes a very distorted…best way to describe it is the speaker distorting. I have a video I’ll share a link for my Google drive.

Google Drive: Sign-in

If I lightly play, no issue. If I hit it normally, not hard just a normal strike it distorts. If it hits really hard, it sounds like a wet ass fart. Best description. And it just sort of pops on the higher strings. Low E is the worse.

I feel it’s something to do with the pickup. It’s not a ground issue I don’t think. If I touch other metal parts, it confines to make the noise. It doesn’t cut in or out, so I don’t think it’s a short or a bad wire.

I’ll contact Ernie ball when I’m able to chat with them. But I didn’t want it to be something. Stupid.

Things I’ve checked:
Pickup height (at factory 6/32” height)
Amp
Cables
Input Jack (tightly acres in. Cable not loose or wiggling. Freely pulls out.” There has always been a screech when removing it though.

Thanks for any help, and sorry for any rules I’m breaking. My sweet baby child is hurt! :) thanks everyone.

Welcome to the Forum.

Power supply low? Try fresh batteries.
Hi Rod, first off great name! And Your amazing game of four touchdowns in a single game for Polk High is legendary. I swapped the batteries first off. I forgot to put that in my post. Like a true stoner. I’ma total idiot…thanks for keeping me honest. :) But yeah, still farting away like Peg’s mom down in ol’ Wanker County.

Perhaps the jack is the problem. EB Customer Service is your friend.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the things to try.
I’m going to get two brand new Duracell’s on the way home from work. I bought a box of batteries about a year ago just for the sting ray. They’re Duracell Procell. So they’re z probably old and trash anyway. So I’m going to give that a try. Because nothing else really makes sense.

Gluvhand:
I had no idea what a padded input was. Had to look it up. Thanks for teaching me something new. It had a -15db input Jack. I never use that. I assumed it was for like, quieter play. Like some amps can go form like 15 to 50 watts. Didn’t know it was for hotter pickups. Good to know. But no…farts like a mother in that input.

Mynan:
Yeah bass and amp eq are flat. Even all down it farts. Thus I’m thinking battery? Lol

I don’t have any other active instruments. So I’m assuming it’s been a year of everyday play with these batteries. So it’s probably that.

But I’ll keep you all posted and you all can laugh at me when it’s the batteries. Small price to pay to have my baby be ok!

Thanks everyone, take care.

That would be my guess. What you're describing sounds like a dead battery. Could even be something preventing power getting from the battery to the preamp.
Thanks Mynan. I mean, if it’s not the battery then there was a failure somewhere. And I really doubt that due to the quality of EBMM. But…shit happens. I’m trying not stress out and just tel myself “don’t get cheap batteries idiot.” :) so I’m sure it’s that.

But what a princess of a bass, my lady only demands the best!!! Haha, not sure why I own it, I play as good as Cat :)

Thanks all! Im sure the anticipation is palpable for all of you. 😉 thanks everyone.

It was those batteries. Duracells and I’m in business!

Thank you….you amazing perfect people!!!! You were already amazing for playing bass, but now you’re even MORE amazing for putting my frantic mind at ease. You all are stellar humans! May we jam in this life, or the next. :) Thanks again!
