The nut slots are filed out. Thats what I meant with the modified saddle (bad english)
Theres no difference between a fretted tone and the open one.

Well I'm puzzled. Since you use the approx .125 throught .060" strings from a 5-string set, you have extra tension on all your strings, 1 semitone on the low string and 2 semi on all the rest. That should be OK.

I've never put BEAD strings on my StingRay, but have done it to various 4-string basses with no problems. I've had the tension raised as high as DGCF using the BEAD strings. StingRays have a very sharp tone anyway. Maybe the increased tension creates a tone that's not very useful? One thing though, the B-string tightened up to C should be no problem at all. It should sound great with that slight increase in tension.

Try a new 9v battery? Beats me.

Not sure if I'm helping here, am still confused that you originally said you downtuned the low string to B, and now you say the tuning is CFsharpBE? Which one is it? And you say you are using a 5 string set, suggesting you actually have to increase tension to acquire the tuning you want?

For the band I play in, I need to drop tune my SR4 to C, so it's CFAsharpDsharp (sorry, no damn sharp symbols on these UK keyboards!?!) I don't use a 5 sting set, I just use EB Power Slinkys (highest tension EB 4 string bass strings I could get) to achieve this, and have no problems at all. Not sure I'm helping at all, but if the sound you want comes from a band where the bass player uses an SR4, then should definitely be achievable. Perhaps you can contact that bass player to find out if he can help you achieve the sound you're looking for?

Mine has it between the apostrophe and the enter. It has tilda as its shift function.

The deep frequences are much too low and it produces some high frequences that just hurt.

What do you mean by deep freq are too low? Do you want more low bass? If so use the eq. The same goes for high freq that "hurt", use the eq.

Nope, not there on my keyboard, must be funky. Between apostrophe and enter/return, I have \ , and if I use shift I get | . "|" seems pretty useless to me, would much rather have that symbol I can't type to show you what symbol I don't have, ha-ha.

You' might have a US software setup on a UK keyboard ... I've seen it happen ... try either the pound (shift 3) or the tilde/backtick (next to the 1) .. there's no such thing as a keyboard without a hash .. you wouldn't be able to program some languages without it ..

I'm also sorry for hijacking .. but I can't help it when someone says they have a prollem I try to help .. 'smy nature I'm afraid. :}

What sort of amp are you using? What settings?

Please explain your initial sound observations.

I can, eith not much work, get my Bongo 5 to sound like that recording with only the bridge PU. There should be no problems making your SR4 sound the same.

Shift 4 is the usual $, but if you press "Alt Gr" 4, you get €

My cabs are some old Hartke with alu-speakers 115 and 410

Before you rush out and stick an EMG pickup in your beloved Stingray, I would focus on trying some different cabinets. I would not usually link the idea of low sub-bass with a Hartke cabinet.

I was playing in a metal band a year ago and we used four different tunings (E, drop D-flat, drop D, & drop C). I had four basses - all Stingray 4's using standard string sets. I had one tuned down to C (an E string detuned to C) and it played and sounded fine.

I don't think the problem is with your bass or pickup, I would focus on your cabinets and make sure the pickup height is good. When you detune a bass that far, I'm sure you have adjusted your setup. You can't really go back and forth to standard tuning, it will affect the tension on the neck - and the relief of the neck.

Try some other things before you modify your bass.

I SO wanted to prove you wrong (because I thought I was SO sure of myself), but didn't think about the "alt" key, and low and behold when I use alt/3 I get "#". Ta-daaaa! Nice one peeps, thanks so much for all your help. I have needed this symbol in the past and found the only way I could get it was by copying and pasting the symbol from Word. What a pain THAT was!

So now I've learned something new today, can I go home?

And once again sorry for hijacking, it just kinda got out of control with all the helpful people here (me likey)! I hope you sort out the downtuning prob, as I said before, I downtune my SR4 from E string to drop C, and practice through a Hartke 15 and have "no" (some might suggest otherwise) problems with sound. Hope you get it sorted, and adjusting the setup is definitely a good suggestion if you haven't already done so. Having to tune to drop C for my band was one of the driving forces behind me purchasing a second bass (to use at standard tuneage). With the setup adjustments I had to make to compensate for my newly "slack" strings, it soon became obvious that tuning back and forth was not be an option for me.
