Just to add one dissenting voice..... ( I am a longtime Fender player who has been spending much of his recent time on an older Rickenbacker although I still do love my Stingray.)

Play what you feel comfortable with and get a variety of basses. Be that a Stingray or a Pbass or a Bongo or whatever... I have not found one bass that does everything. I love the way different basses feel and play and sound unique.

I like many basses.

Ernie Ball do have amazing build quality and are more consistant than the others , their customer service is second to none. It would be a good place to start or a good place to wind up.

Uh....I heard the Stingray got in a fight with the Fender Precision, and the Fender cried. The Stingray barely hit it, but the Fender cried like a little girl. The Fender tried to tell everybody later that it had a stomach ache and something was in it's eye, uh.....but nobody believed it. These hot latino chick basses (Ibanez's) went over to the Fender and....um....started laughing at it. "Why are you crying?" they asked. "I'm not crying", said the Fender. Then the Ibanez's started laughing again, and the Fender cried even harder. Everyone saw it. Fender's such a baby.

True story.

I just sold my lefty Am Jazz Dlx, nothing wrong with it, I just couldn't get a good sound out of it. Now that I have a Sterling, I doubt I'll buy a skinny neck bass again... well more Sterlings of course.

EBMM basses, to me, just sound and play the best.
I don't know why and I don't care... great is great, that's all...

Lakland's rate very high with me, as well.

Just as it's been said throughout this entire forum, it's all a matter of what axe feels/sounds/looks right for you.

They are nice but I don't think the price on the U.S. Laklands are justified.I could buy like two and a half SR5's for the price of one of those........or a Bongo and a Sterling....or two Sterlings and an S.U.B.

a P-bass might sound good alone, but it doesnt cut that well with a band.

Well, I know where you're going with that, but I don't share your sentiment. P-basses are just as easy to pick in the mix as Stringrays. There's nothing wrong with George Porter Jr.'s tone if you ask me - funky as all hell and full and fat in the mix to boot!

Plus, a P-bass is one thing, but a P-bass DELUXE is a whole other kettle of trout.

Thanks Dude!
