I know this is a tribute thread, but I'd rather ask a question to the sub guys than start another thread.... Are the sub 1 pots 250k or 500k? If they're 250, would there be any benefit to going to 500's? I may be switching out one or both and going to individual pots (one per pickup) as I'll be coil splitting and want to do strange things like one single one hum sound...... I figure while I'm swapping out, I might as well get what is best.

Sticky - your Motrucci is really a great work of art man! Very nicely done. I think that's the 1st EBMM guitar I actually like that pickguard on. :) You got me thinking bro...

Thanks fella, i'm still loving the Abalone, it gives the Sub such a nice finish.

Just picked up my third sub one off ebay!!! .... I can't wait!!!

It is there yet? :)

Yep, just as Slingy said, they are 250k. I changed to 500k with the new DiMarzios, and it sounds great all round in the Poplar body.

I have a PROBLEM on my SUB1 with tremolo! When I touch it, it goes out of tune. I set up trem like on Luke, it can go down or half tone up. Everything was great for last six months, and suddenly something get wrong and when I touch it, it goes out of tune. I never had such experience with any guitar. Please, I need some suggestions what I should do!

Hi Irvas, and welcome to the forum.

First thing to do, is contact Customer Service directly.

From there you will either get some top notch advice, or even a recommendation of a local dealer/tech who can be trusted to work on your Sub if required.

Online forums are a tricky place to offer advice, and with so many variables at play it can often lead to a situation much worse than where you started.

Oh, and get some pics posted of that Sub, fella! We're mad for pics round these parts :)

Hello Irvas

The nut of your SUB has a lot of wear. What string gauge do you use ? Normally, SUB come with 9-42 string gauge. If you use higher gauge (10-46, 11-52) you need to widen a bit the nut slots otherwise the strings cannot move freely in the slots. The marks I see on you nut give me the impression that the strings are too wide and they break the nut slots.
In any case, if the strings do not move freely in the slot, every time you touch your whammy bar the strings will move but will not be able to come back in their initial position.

Thanx Fbecir! It looks it might be the problem. I use 10-46 EB. But it has been working fine for the last couple of mounts. Now I think the only thing I can do is to replace the nut and hope that it would turn out well.

honestly - looking at the position of the bridge saddles, it looks like the intonation is not set correctly. If that is the case there could be lots of abnormal funky sounds coming from your sub 1.

Another possibility is that now that you are floating the trem, more wear is occurring on the knife edges of the trem and such wear can be so extreme that a slight touch resets where the worn knife-edge sits in the trem post. Take it off and have a look and see if the knife –edge is at all worn/pitted…. That is if the other options do not prove to solve your problem.

For future historical searches, I'll list my koa Sub 1 here....

Fantastic Sub.

Really, really, classy; looks so well finished too.

As you stated in the other thread, with Music Man DNA, that axe has exploited some serious potential.

Great stuff
