If this forum is still rolling in 25 years (and let's pray that it is), these SUB 1 guitars will be being re discovered and treasured in the same way that the 50's-60's Les Paul/SG Juniors are today.
They're amazing guitars...

Wow.....I have thought about removing the finish on the neck but haven't had the guts (or ambition) yet. I like it. I REALLY LIKE IT!!!

Is the kill switch for when the shreading gets so fast that it's about to run away and kill someone??? :D

The kilsswitch "kills" the sound while it's pushed down. It's very used by Buckethead (Jordan) and Tom Morello of rage against the machine (Know Your Enemy intro).

I plan on it when I receive the guitar. :) I just pulled the trigger yesterday..... I was down to two balls and hadd to fill the void. I have two subs in black now... but when all is said and done they will both be very different.... even though they are already from a playing standpoint, heh.

Wow that's cool man! Try putting some coil-taps to add variety! I'm actually planning on mine. :)

I don't really understand why some object to a painted neck. My Les Paul had a pianted neck and it was a pretty good guitar, neck was fast. All my subs have painted necks, and at first they are satin black, but after breaking them in the satin glosses and the neck is as smooth as a babys behind. My naked maple silo didn't seem to be much faster or smoother; especially when sweating. Guess it must be a personal thing. All I can say is the painted necks on the Sub 1's are great; fast smooth and very very playable. AFAIAC I dont even notice it.

Hmmm....as a rule, I can't stand painted necks. My glossy LP neck is as sticky as hell and my hand is always getting hung up. However, the satin finish of my Sub neck is like butter, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I find the Sub neck to be just as good as the unfinished neck on my other EBMMs.

AMEN!

I seriously have not encountered a better rock machine than a SUB.

I also think that just about any pups would sound sweet in it (although MM got it right on the stock ones, to me they are the holy grail).

So you snapped up the Sub? Good choice, brother :)

er... no. The Silo Spec blew the SUB1marine out of the water!:p But I'm glad I got a chance to try it. Then I now know that it's not for me, rather than have to keep on wondering.

If there was a Silhouette there, then I'd probably would have ignored everything else...:D

Haha! Lionel bro! I really admire what you did! :) For those who are unaware, our brother here sold his other brand guitars and became a MUSICMAN addict!:D Specifically Silo's. Good on you man! Hope to see your New Silo after it gets into your hands! See you around bro!

This being a "SUB1 Tribute Thread", that was just a touch negative for my over sensitive Sub loving soul.

Sorry brother :(

I understand completely... Heh. Sorry about that... Just wanted to add that I've tried one of these, but it's not for me. That doesn't mean the Sub1 is a lesser guitar... It's just different.;)

Ive got a cinnammon Sub1 single pup hardtail.
Looking to get new pickguard and add a neck pup and some fancy switching.

Any ideas?

Really have no idea what style of pickguard would suit it.
Either that or pickguard is gonna have to be cut to accomodate a neck pup.

Hey bro, adding another PU is a better idea. I just put Seymour Duncan Custom custom and Jazz on mine and added a coil-tap push/pull. still with 250k pots, volume and tone/coil-tap. AWESOME!!!!!!!

If you're into metal, EMG's are good. Try putting the Kerry King Sets w/ PU boosters or Zakk Wylde sets. great combi's! Show us the pix after! :)

Really quite stunning that, jamminjim. Very very classy indeed. :)

I hear you, brother. First time I tried a JP6, I soooo wanted to bond with it but my fussy hands never got to grips with the unfinished neck. Told you I was over sensitive ;)

My top three Sub combination ideas at the moment:

1) Petrucci inspired D Sonic/Air Norton combo (Detuned w/new nut)
2) EMG SL-20 Lukather set on a Silo Special pickguard
3) Graph Tech Ghost/Hexaphonic MIDI installation with no magentic pickups.

I like the idea of a 5 position rotary switch installation; to me it's cosmetically "just right". I've never liked sliding blade style switches, and toggles I can just about tolerate.
