Help! Suggest a solution

Ok, I realize probably 99% of people like the strap on the horn side about the 12th fret. We'll I'm the 1 %. For some reason that's never been comfortable to me.

I like the strap to be around the 15th fret or even closer to the body. Is there any way to put a strap button on one of the screws that keep the neck into place? Or any other suggestions that doesn't include drilling the body? If I do have to drill something, I'm thinking the under side of the horn around the 15 th fret, but I'm not sure I wanna do that.

Of maybe something that will wrap around the horn ?

Thanks I really like my bongo stealth hs, but my les paul is actually easier for me to play

If you can get a metal workshop to custom make a screw for you, I guess that would be feasible. Maybe.

If not, I'd leave the neck screws alone if I were you, because those particular screws have an important enough purpose already.

I totally understand your aversion to drilling holes in the bass, but technically that will be the most thorough solution (not to mention the easiest one).

Fender had a hole in the back of the peg head, used to hold the neck in a jig during construction. To fill the hole, they put in a strap button.

Golem has learned not to talk to nor offer
advice to folks with drill-o-phobia. Yes my
Boingo is well drilled, as are nearly all of
mine basses. My Boingo now has perfect
strap balance [for me] both sitting down
and standing up.

Now eye-4-1 cannot imagine in my most
wildest imaginings why anyone would put
their strap somewhere south of the 12th
fret, but some folks ARE happy with their
MM Reflex basses altho due to the shape
[shape = balance here] I've never even
noodled on one, even when GC had one
on clearance for only $1800 [it's still at
the local GC but re-priced back to $2600].

Nevertheless, if I were to become quite
enamored of neck dive, and I wanted to
apply this to a Ray, I would drill under
the top horn cuz thaz the most secure
connection.

remove one and take it to a hardware store, a clerk would help you. take a strap button so you can see how much longer it needs to be.

just try to get used to it or you will end up drilling holes into a beautiful guitar finish. or buy the reflex.

If you know someone skilled at bending metal, and with access to equipment, you could have a brace made, something like this. With metal sheets, it doesn't have to be bulky or heavy, and with padding in the right places it won't necessarily scratch the bass.

A kludgy solution compared to drilling a hole, but at least it's a solution that doesn't involve drilling a hole.
