To Derek (or anyone who has some insight),

Were the Stingray 5's ever done with Alnico pickups? I read an article recently that indicated that the early ones were. If so, when was the change made to ceramic? What (if anything) is the difference?

Thanks.

The SR5 was alnico and had a preamp similar (perhaps identical) to the SR4 threeband EQ. The pole pieces changed to ceramic around 1992. At the same time, a dummy coil was also added to cancel hum and the preamp was redesigned to accomodate the new pickup.
