So I am thinking I'd like the freedom of a wireless set-up after watching my guitar-player cousin prance-around on the dance floor while I continued to tangle my 20' cord!

I've not done any real "homework" yet, but I recall hearing about the need to pay attention to the unit's ability to handle bass frequencies (?).

Looking for a good, solid reliable unit to use with my Sterling and Bongo - Any comments or experience, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! :D

Guys - thanks for the feedback. I am looking for something that won't hammer my wallet. I'm hoping to find something for around $300-$400.

And Motojunkie - thanks for the link. There's a lot of good info there.

I will continue to poke around... I am looking to get something around December / January (Christmas & Bonus time).

It looks to me like the 2000 only gets down to 100 hertz at the 3000 only gets down to 70 hertz. Is that low enough?

I've used a Samson Airline for 4 years. 12 hour battery life from a single AAA, great range, tonally transparent, reliable, tiny. Apologies for the non-EB content. Pic was taken during sound check for an outdoor gig.

That's cool, Aussie Mark. I was actually considering getting a wireless so I can do that exact same thing. Now it's certain! :D

i once went to a show where the bassist (who was playing a bongo) walked through the crowd with his wireless...it was cool cause he kind of dissapeared and then all of a sudden a spotlight went into the crowd and there he was

so wireless=more antics i guess

Absolutely. More than once I've gone for a stroll out of the bar into the carpark during a song, and come back into the room through another door, just to see the looks on people's faces.

You're welcome! FYI, I paid $375 for my Sennheiser new.

great wireless if your looking for some less expense stuff. they have a 3000 and 2000 version

+1

About two months ago I bought a very inexpensive Audio Technica unit for use around the house. (Don't ask me which model, as I am at work right now  ) Cost me less than $200 and works fine for home use, but I would have to get a much more expensive unit before I would rely on it on stage. I do notice an occasional "pop" or drop in volume when I get out of sight of the unit.

Nothing is cooler than sitting on the back porch making the house shake from the living room, though! :D

Thanks - the Airline was on my list to take a look at...

Funny thing - part of the desire to go wireless is to do the sound check. We're a small group and our gigs are generally charitable (charitable = no pay!). Charitable gigs usually mean we don't have a "sound guy" running our PA.

We primarily play community-type outdoor events at picnics / fairs / BBQ's. It's so critical that someone with an ear for a balanced mix get's out there to hear the house-mix (we all go through our amps on stage and direct through the board).

I do not trust the guitar players... ;)

Of course, I am also looking forward to the freedom to cavort within the crowd during the show! :D

Soundcheck is when I've found the practical side of wireless coming to the fore.

Anthony,

Just a word on the wireless:

If you go UHF (which you probably should), don't be fooled by some of the 'multi channel' claims. With some units, you actually have to purchase a different module for the transmitter in order to use another channel (such as the AKG WMS guitarbug thingy).

I had a Samson 32-channel UHF wireless, but I returned it when the receiver kept re-booting every 5 minutes or so. Too bad, I really wanted the versatility of that unit. The place I had bought it from was out of stock, so I opted to just get my money back.

Right now I have a cheap UHF single-channel unit that I bought at GC a few months ago. (Can't even remember the brand right now.. it lives at my drummers house with most of my gear!) Anyway, the cheapo one has worked just fine, with no interference whatsoever. But I have not used it for gigging, and you often run into RF oddities in those situations.

Samson Airline on the list... Also looking at the Shure lines that utilizes their "Audio Reference Companding" logic...
